Porcelain dancing spoons silk scarf
If anything reflects the indulgence of the Peranakan / Baba Nyonya culture it’s their spoons. A purely functional tool to most, the increasingly rare porcelain spoons of the Baba Nyonya were commissioned for special occasions and ceremonies. The finest craftsman would then create each one, painstakingly adorning them with intricate motifs.
This scarf blends striking colours with ornate symbols. The mythical phoenix represents beauty and grace – a common motif in Peranakan porcelain. It’s joined by a lady dressed in traditional Nyonya Kebaya.
DESIGNER STORY
Nonamu has been created to keep a unique and quintessential history alive through contemporary designs. Heritage, identity, comfort, versatility and style that lasts a lifetime are what Nonamu believes in. Our designs are inspired by the indulgence of the Peranakan heritage of Malaysia, where the multi-award winning industrial designer is from. Living away from home for over a decade has made her appreciate the culture and heritage her hometown has to offer. Ai Pheng Yeap brings a genuine passion for preserving a world of colour, craft and history that was slowly slipping away. She is bringing heritage to you by fusing the traditional with the modern. It’s the perfect tribute to a culture born out of embracing new experiences and ideas. The colourful and intricate silk scarf designs reflect its local culture, weaving its authentic heritage into each piece.
