Johanna Ortiz Fall Winter 2026: Inside Alma, and the Pieces to Shop

Alma is the Johanna Ortiz Fall Winter 2026 collection: 66 styles built around a botanical print the house describes as a nocturnal garden, worked in silk crepe de chine, shiny jersey, lurex palm jacquard and long curly shearling. Most of it is made in Cali, Colombia. Coveti carries the in-stock pieces on the Johanna Ortiz page, and the dresses sit in our designer dresses edit.

Alma is Spanish for soul, and the name fits a collection that turns the label away from the beach for a season. Johanna Ortiz founded her house in Cali in 2003 and made her name with resort dressing: off-shoulder ruffles, folkloric prints, cotton you can wear to a long lunch by the sea. Alma keeps the ruffle and the print, then moves them indoors and after dark. The prints are darker, the fabrics heavier, and the outerwear is the most serious the house has shown.

What defines Alma

A nocturnal garden print

Almost every printed piece carries the same idea: plants seen at night. On the Parajes Lejanos Dress it is a contrasting botanical motif in ecru and black on silk crepe de chine. On the Reinvention Oasis Dress it turns tonal, printed onto shiny jersey so the leaves only show when the fabric moves. The red and black prints, such as the La Primera Luz Dress, come from what the house calls a lush, living landscape.

Metallic jacquards

The second idea is shine woven into the cloth rather than added on top. The lurex palm jacquard of the Powerful Stitches Dress and the Force Of Nature Jacket is 81% viscose and 19% acetate, with the palm motif raised in metallic thread. The engraved lurex jacquard of the Ideal Universe Dress is a different cloth, 45% acrylic, 41% cellulose acetate and 14% polyester. Our guide to what lurex is explains why the two behave differently.

Shearling and Afghan craft

Three vests and two jackets are, in the house’s words, inspired by the heritage of Afghan shearling and textile craft. The Long Night Jacket is cut from long curly Tibetan shearling; the Carefree Vest pairs suede with long curly panels; the Fearless Value Vest sets velvet against faux shearling with metallic embellishment. Read our guide to Penny Lane coats for the history behind the look.

Boots, not sandals

The styling notes keep returning to boots. The house shows three pull-on cow leather knee boots on wood heels: the Tropical Vibration Boot in Black, its chocolate twin, and the taller The Enchanted Threshold Boot.

Our picks from Alma

1. Johanna Ortiz Effortless Muse Dress

Velvet devore burnt out into a tonal palm, so the dress is opaque where the pile stays and sheer where it was removed. A long column with an open back. The evening dress of the collection. See more in our velvet dresses guide.

2. Johanna Ortiz La Interprete Jacket

A structured wool jacket covered in gold embroidery drawn from traditional ornamental motifs, made in India. Wear it over a slip dress and let the jacket do the talking. More in embroidered jackets for women.

3. Johanna Ortiz Independent Cape

Silk double georgette with a back button closure at the shoulder. It has volume without weight, which makes it the easiest evening layer in the line. Our capes for women guide shows how to wear one.

4. Johanna Ortiz Bloom Secret Dress

An ankle length stretch jersey dress with long sleeves and a draped neckline that falls at the back. The house styles it with leather boots by day. It is the most practical dress in Alma, and a model for our winter dresses guide.

5. Johanna Ortiz Long Night Jacket

Long curly Tibetan shearling in ecru. Throw it over a silk dress and the contrast of pile and fluid fabric is the whole look.

6. Johanna Ortiz Verdant Spell Mochila in Burgundy and Red

A silk mochila trimmed with feathers and glass, with an adjustable drop. Read the full story in our mochila bags guide.

How to wear Alma

The collection is built to be layered. The house pairs fluid silk with structured outerwear, a print with a solid boot, shine with matte. Three formulas work every time:

Alma around the world

United States. The jersey and silk dresses suit fall weddings and holiday parties; pair them with our fall wedding guest dresses guide. United Kingdom and Europe. The wool, lurex and shearling pieces are the ones built for a real winter: start with the Herencia Viva Pant in wool and a vest over knitwear. The Gulf. For evening events in Dubai, Riyadh and Doha, the long sleeved, high neck dresses such as the Rain Secret Dress and the floor length The New Eden Tunic Dress give full coverage without losing drama.

Sizing

The house lists almost every Alma piece as true to size. Dresses and bottoms are cut on US 0 to 12, which Coveti shows on the UK ladder (a US 0 is a UK 4); outerwear and vests run XS to XL. Boots come in EU 36 to 41. Our Johanna Ortiz size guide has the full conversion.
