The Coveti Designer Index
A quarterly ranking of the designer fashion market, built from every style Coveti tracks: who commands couture prices, where the market is made, what it costs and what it is made of.
All figures are computed from listed prices in US dollars. The data behind every chart is free to republish with attribution.
Seven findings from Q3 2026
Each finding is a single verifiable claim. Quote them freely; the methodology and the per-maison table below carry the workings.
The $1,000 line now splits designer fashion in half
Of the 23,175 styles on the Index, 50.3% list under $1,000 and 25.0% list under $500. The market median sits at $990. Designer fashion's centre of gravity has moved to the accessible end while the couture tail keeps stretching upward.
The $10,000 club has 372 members
372 styles list at $10,000 and above, spread across 22 maisons. The ceiling is $66,250, held by a hand-finished leather gown from Gabriela Hearst. A further 1,270 styles occupy the $5,000 to $10,000 band, just 5.5% of the market: the thinnest shelf on the price wall.
Beirut and Dubai price like Paris
Middle East couture houses hold 4 of the top 10 positions on the price ladder: Tony Ward at No. 2, Zuhair Murad at No. 6, MarMar Halim at No. 7, Gemy Maalouf at No. 10. With Elie Saab at No. 14, the seven-house Middle East bloc is the strongest regional cluster at the top of the Index.
Australia is the largest national bloc
17 of 87 maisons on the Index are Australian, ahead of the United Kingdom (16) and the United States (13). By garment origin, Australia accounts for 20.6% of styles with a stated origin, second only to Italy at 22.7%.
The dress is the economy
Dresses account for 35.2% of the Index (8,148 styles), the largest category by a wide margin, and command a median of $1,330: a 34% premium over the market median. Occasionwear is doing the heavy lifting in designer retail.
Black leads, colour is closing
Black remains the single largest colour at 19.5% of styles, but Multicolour sits two points behind at 17.5%, and Ivory and White together take 16.0%. The monochrome default is no longer a majority habit: four in five designer styles are now something other than black.
A 27x spread separates the top of the ladder from the bottom
Schiaparelli tops the Index at a median listed price of $9,435. Essentiel Antwerp anchors the accessible end at $350. Between them sit 87 houses in four pricing tiers: 10 couture, 30 luxury, 33 advanced contemporary and 14 contemporary.

Methodology
- Universe
- 87 designer ready-to-wear collections tracked by Coveti's assortment intelligence pipeline, captured through July 2026: 23,175 unique styles after deduplication by SKU. Collections marked onboarding are tracked ahead of their Coveti launch.
- Prices
- Listed retail prices in US dollars as published on coveti.com at capture; for onboarding collections, the confirmed Coveti listing price ahead of publication. The Index reports medians because the couture tail skews means. Sale prices, estimates and third-party data never enter any figure.
- Ranking
- Maisons are ranked by median listed price. Ties break on style count. Movement against prior editions begins with Edition 02, October 2026.
- Scope
- Womenswear ready-to-wear only. Bags, shoes, jewellery and accessory capsules are excluded and tracked separately. A style is one SKU; colourways with distinct SKUs count as distinct styles.
- Attributes
- Category, colour, composition and country of origin are read from each garment record as catalogued. 100% of styles carry a colour and 92% state a country of origin; shares are computed on stated bases. Fibre shares count styles whose stated composition mentions the fibre, so one style can appear under several fibres.
- Limitations
- The Index measures assortment and listed price, not sell-through. Tracked styles are not all purchasable at any given moment; assortments change daily. Garment origin reflects the label's stated country of origin, not where a house is headquartered.
