Ateliers Auguste: Parisian design, made in Italy
The house was founded by two brothers with a training in design and architecture; its story page dates the women’s line to 2018 and cites Le Corbusier, Jean Prouvé, the Eameses and Frank Lloyd Wright as its references, and the bags read that way: rectangles, trapezoids, a visible structure and one piece of metal on the front. Every handbag is made by hand in Italy in workshops in the Venetian countryside, more than four hours of work each, from calf leather tanned in northern Italy less than 70 km away at a partner certified by the Leather Working Group, REACH compliant and treated to resist rain. The house sells direct, online and from its boutique at 8 rue de Turenne in the Marais, guarantees every bag for a year and repairs it afterwards. It is often written Atelier Auguste in the singular; the label spells it Ateliers.

Editor’s guide: wearing Ateliers Auguste
These are bags designed as a permanent wardrobe rather than a season, so the work is choosing the size and the shade, not the trend. Start with the Mini Monceau if you carry a card holder and the Monceau if you carry a wallet; take the Mini Marly for the top-handle look that photographs like furniture; take the Sévigné for a laptop and the Mini Sévigné for a tablet on a strap. Choose Black for the least maintenance, Tan for the most character, Taupe for a wardrobe that mixes navy and black, and match the plaque to the metal you already wear: gold on every bag, silver on the two Black pebble Silver Editions. Box calf marks in its first weeks and then patinas; pebble calf hides scratches; suede stays for dry days; the brand says its leathers are treated to resist rain and asks for a colourless leather milk once a year.

Frequently asked questions
Who is Ateliers Auguste?
A Parisian leather goods house founded by brothers Laurent and Xavier Valembert, with a women’s line since 2018, that designs structured minimalist handbags in Paris and has them handcrafted in Italy from Italian calf leather.
Where are Ateliers Auguste bags made?
In Italy, by hand, in workshops in the Venetian countryside, from calf leather tanned in northern Italy at an LWG-certified partner. The small leather goods are made in Porto, Portugal.
Is Ateliers Auguste a luxury brand?
A contemporary luxury house: Italian-made structured leather bags at $730 to $1,350 at Coveti, sold direct, with a one-year guarantee and a repair service, priced under the heritage Paris houses.
Which Ateliers Auguste bag fits a laptop?
The Sévigné tote fits a 13 inch laptop by the brand’s own statement; the Mini Sévigné and the Amelot take a tablet. Every other bag is a phone-and-wallet size.
What is the difference between the Gold Edition and the Silver Edition?
Only the metal: the engraved plaque, clasp and feet in gold on the Gold Edition, in silver on the Silver Edition, at the same price. Gold is on every bag; silver on the Black pebble Sevigne and Passy East West.
How should I care for an Ateliers Auguste bag?
Keep it from moisture, grease, perfume and heat, store it in its cotton pouch stuffed with tissue, and nourish the leather with a colourless leather milk once a year. The leathers are treated to resist rain; wipe box and smooth calf dry, keep suede out of the rain.
