Alexander McQueen Bags: The Jewelled, the Knuckle and the Locke
Alexander McQueen Bags: The Jewelled, the Knuckle and the Locke
Alexander McQueen bags are built around one strong piece of hardware: the Knuckle ring handle with the house skull, which Lee McQueen created in 2009, and, this season, a heart-shaped padlock on the new Locke. From the Fall Winter 2026 collection, Coveti now carries the Locke, the Jewelled and the Jewelled Mini, all made in Italy in calf leather.
This guide covers what each one is, how big it is, and which to buy for the way you actually carry a bag.
The short answer: which McQueen bag to buy
- For work and everyday: the Locke Bag, a structured top handle bag with a detachable strap, sized for a working day.
- For evening and the shoulder: the Jewelled Bag in pop red, a long, slim baguette shape on a leather handle.
- For hands free and crossbody: the Jewelled Mini Bag in shell pink, carried three ways.
The Jewelled: the Knuckle, made into a day bag
The Knuckle began life on an evening clutch. Lee McQueen created the Knuckle Clutch in 2009, a box bag gripped through a four-finger ring handle that reads as a knuckle-duster, and it became a signature of the house. The house returned to it in April 2025 with a capsule of new Knuckle clutches.
The Jewelled family takes that hardware off the clutch and sets it on the front of a leather bag. Both Jewelled styles at Coveti are cut from croc-embossed calf leather with a semi-matte finish, and both have the Knuckle with the signature skull, a chain detail, one main compartment, an internal card slot and a magnet fastening.
- The Jewelled Bag is the longer shape, L 31.5 cm x H 12 cm x W 8 cm, with silver-finished hardware and a tonal leather handle that sits on the shoulder.
- The Jewelled Mini Bag is L 24 cm x H 11 cm x W 7 cm, with tonal hardware. You can hold it by the Knuckle, wear it on the shoulder, and wear it across the body on the adjustable, removable leather strap.
The mini is the more versatile of the two. The full size Jewelled is the better evening bag, because the long, low shape sits close under the arm and the red does the work against black.
The Locke: tailoring in bag form
The Locke Bag is new for Fall Winter 2026, and the one closest to the house’s tailoring: an architectural, structured shape in black calf leather that holds its line the way a McQueen jacket holds a shoulder. It closes with a twist lock, hung with an archival-inspired heart-shaped padlock in antique silver.
Inside there are two compartments and an internal zip pocket, with a front pocket outside and metal feet at the base so it can stand on a floor. It measures L 39 cm x H 26 cm x W 7 cm, with a 14.5 cm handle drop and a 50 cm drop on the detachable strap, so it works by hand and over the shoulder.
How to wear a McQueen bag
A Jewelled bag already carries a skull, a chain and a ring handle, so wear it with plain clothes and little other jewellery. The Metallic Knit Mini Dress with the red Jewelled and black boots is the house look this season in three pieces.
The Locke works the other way. It is quiet enough for tailoring, so carry it with the Wool Pinstripe Single-breasted Jacket and matching cigarette trousers, and let the padlock be the only shine. The how to wear Alexander McQueen guide covers the clothes in detail.
Leather, care and what lasts
Croc-embossed calf is pressed with a scale pattern, so it is more forgiving of small marks than smooth leather. Wipe both leathers with a soft dry cloth, keep the hardware away from perfume, and store each bag stuffed in its dust bag. Take the strap off the Jewelled Mini before storing it so the leather does not crease at the rings. Each piece lists its own care on its Coveti product page.
How McQueen bags compare
Alexander McQueen sits between two kinds of bag. Bottega Veneta sells craft with no logo at all, and Saint Laurent sells the logo itself. McQueen sells a motif: the skull, the Knuckle and now the padlock, which are recognisable without spelling out a name. Frequently asked questions
What is the most iconic Alexander McQueen bag?
The Knuckle Clutch, created by Lee McQueen in 2009, is the best-known McQueen bag. Its four-finger ring handle now appears on the Jewelled bags, which carry the Knuckle with the signature skull on the front of a croc-embossed calf leather bag.
What is the Alexander McQueen Locke bag?
The Locke is a structured top handle bag in black calf leather from the Fall Winter 2026 collection. It closes with a twist lock hung with a heart-shaped padlock, has a detachable strap, two compartments and an internal zip pocket, and measures L 39 cm x H 26 cm x W 7 cm.
How big is the Alexander McQueen Jewelled Mini?
The Jewelled Mini measures L 24 cm x H 11 cm x W 7 cm. It fits a phone, cards, keys and a lipstick, and it can be carried by the Knuckle, on the shoulder and across the body on its adjustable, removable leather strap.
Where are Alexander McQueen bags made?
All three McQueen bags at Coveti are made in Italy, as stated by the house. The country of origin is listed on every Coveti product page.
Are Alexander McQueen bags worth it?
They are worth it if you want a bag that is recognisable by its hardware rather than its logo. The calf leather, the cast Knuckle and the padlock are built to last, and the Knuckle has stayed in the collection since 2009, so it does not date with a single season.
Is Coveti an authentic place to buy McQueen bags?
Yes. Every Alexander McQueen piece sold by Coveti is 100% authentic and verified before dispatch, and it ships worldwide by DHL Express and FedEx International Priority, insured and signature required.
