DeMellier Brooklyn and Florence: the New Shapes, Explained

Two families have joined the DeMellier line-up. The Brooklyn is a sculptural east-west shoulder bag with the signature gold-plated belt hardware; the Florence is a handwoven tote with brushed gold-plated hardware and a Florence Crossbody to match. Both arrive at Coveti for the first time in this delta, and neither had a buying guide anywhere when we checked on 14 October 2026.

The Brooklyn

The Brooklyn is a wide, low, east-west shoulder bag: 60cm across the top, with a 24cm handle drop. It holds a 13 inch laptop and a large phone in dedicated compartments, so it is a work bag with a softer, more fashion-led outline than the New York. The Midi Brooklyn keeps the shape at 44cm and holds the everyday kit plus a large phone.

The Florence

The Florence is DeMellier’s first woven tote family: handwoven Italian leather on a 46.5cm body with adjustable top handles that drop from 10 to 27cm, so it is carried by hand and on the shoulder. It fits a 14 inch laptop and A4 documents. The Florence Crossbody keeps the weave on a smaller body with a three-section interior and an adjustable crossbody strap.

Which to choose

For a laptop, choose the Florence (14 inch) over the Brooklyn (13 inch). For a cleaner, belted look, choose the Brooklyn. For hands-free, the Florence Crossbody is the only crossbody of the four.

Colours

The Brooklyn launches in warm brown, mocha, dark taupe and bordeaux small grain plus hazel and tobacco suede. The Florence comes in bordeaux and black fine grain and mocha suede.

How they fit the range

The Brooklyn sits between the New York and the Stockholm; the Florence sits alongside the work bags in the best DeMellier work bags.

Brooklyn vs New York

Both are wide, belted shoulder bags, and on a hanger they look related. The New York is taller, with a trapeze body that opens at the top, and it takes the bigger laptop. The Brooklyn is lower and longer, an east-west shape that sits flatter under the arm, and it organises a 13 inch laptop and a phone in their own compartments. If you dislike rummaging, the Brooklyn is the tidier bag; if you carry a 15 inch machine and up, it has to be the New York.

Living with a woven bag

Handwoven leather is more forgiving of scuffs than a flat panel, because the weave breaks up the surface, and the Florence has a bonded construction under the weave on some styles to keep its shape. Do not overfill it, as heavy loads can stretch the weave at the corners; store it stuffed with tissue, and wipe it with a soft dry cloth.
