Fear of God Essentials Hoodie: Fit, Sizing and How to Spot a Real One

The Fear of God Essentials hoodie is the piece most people mean when they search for the brand. It is a heavyweight cotton blend fleece hoodie cut long and relaxed, with a rubberised Essentials label and almost no other decoration. Coveti carries the current hoodies in the Fear of God collection, from the Classic in black to the 90s Hoodie and the licensed sports styles.

Quick answer

  • Fabric: mostly 80% cotton and 20% polyester fleece, at 380GSM for the Classic and 480GSM to 520GSM for the heavier 90s and sports styles.
  • Fit: relaxed by design, with dropped shoulders and a longer body. Most people take their usual size.
  • Sizes: XS to XXXL on most styles, with some running from XXS and up to 4XL.
  • Real vs fake: check the weight, the label, the style code and the seller.

The Essentials hoodies, one by one

The Classic Hoodie

The Essentials Classic Hoodie is the core style: 380GSM core fleece, a kangaroo pocket, rib-knit cuffs and waist hem and a soft-touch Essentials Fear of God logo. There are two versions this season, one with the logo on the chest and one with the logo across the back. The Classic Zip-Up Hoodie is the same body with a full zip.

The 90s Hoodie

The 90s Hoodie is wider and boxier, with dropped shoulders and a heavier hand. It is the one to choose if you like the oversized Essentials shape from a few years ago. The embossed 90s Relaxed Zip Up Hoodie carries a 3D Essentials logo pressed into the fleece.

The Signature Hoodie

The Signature Classic Hoodie swaps the rubber logo for an embroidered Essentials script. It reads quieter and suits anyone who wants the shape without the branding.

The Half Raglan Hoodie

The Classic Half Raglan Hoodie has raglan seams at the back and set in sleeves at the front, which gives a softer shoulder line. Night Sea, a deep teal, is one of the strongest colours of the Fall Winter 2026 range.

The sports hoodies

Essentials makes hoodies under official licence with the NFL, MLB and NBA. The NFL Sport Hoodies are 480GSM fleece with team graphics, and the NBA styles with the painter Barkley L. Hendricks carry his basketball artwork printed in 3D. Read more in our guide to the Essentials NFL, MLB and NBA collections.

How does the Essentials hoodie fit?

Every Essentials hoodie is cut relaxed, so the extra room is part of the design. Fear of God describes the Classic as its signature relaxed proportions: the shoulder drops a few centimetres, the body is long and the sleeves stack at the cuff. The 90s styles go further, with a boxier, oversized body. Take your usual size for the intended drape. If you are between sizes and prefer a neater line, the smaller size will still look relaxed. Essentials runs in letter sizes from XXS to 4XL depending on the style, and the main collection runs XS to XXXL, waist sizes 28 to 38 for denim and IT 44 to 56 for tailoring. See the Fear of God size guide for how each fit family wears.

How to tell a real Essentials hoodie from a fake

Fakes of the Essentials hoodie are common because the design is simple. These are the checks we use when we authenticate stock.

  • Weight: real Essentials fleece is dense. A 380GSM Classic feels substantial, and a 480GSM 90s style feels heavy in the hand.
  • The label: the rubberised Essentials label is cleanly moulded with crisp letters, and it is stitched flat at the hood.
  • The logo: the soft-touch logo sits flat and even, without cracking, raised edges, uneven spacing and misshapen letters.
  • The style code: each genuine hoodie has a style code on its care label that matches the colourway. We list the code on every Coveti product page.
  • The seller: buy from Fear of God, its authorised stockists and retailers that authenticate what they sell. Every piece on Coveti is checked before it ships.

Which colour to choose

Black, Ash Heather, Warm Heather and Oatmeal Heather are the core colours that come back every season. Seasonal shades this autumn include Night Sea, Seal and Pyrite Heather. All of them sit in the same muted family, so they mix with each other easily. A hoodie and sweatpants in matching colours make the classic Essentials set; see our guide to Essentials matching sets.

How to care for it

Wash it cold and inside out with similar colours, then dry it flat. The tumble dryer is the quickest way to shrink the fleece and crack the logo.

The Fear of God palette

Part of what makes the brand easy to wear is that the colours are chosen to work together. Each season returns to a small set of neutrals: Black, Ink Black and Vintage Black; the heathers, Ash, Warm, Oatmeal and Concrete; the browns and taupes, Seal, Dune and Homestead; and creams like Dirty Ivory. One accent arrives each season, and for Fall Winter 2026 it is Night Sea, a deep teal. Because the shades are close, you can pair a hoodie from one season with sweatpants from another and they still look like a set.

How to care for Fear of God fleece and jersey

Cotton fleece and heavy jersey last for years if you treat them gently. Wash them cold and inside out, with similar colours, because the deep blacks and washed colours can bleed in the first few washes. Skip fabric softener, which flattens the brushed back of the fleece. Dry flat away from direct heat; a hot tumble dryer is the quickest way to shrink the body and crack a soft-touch logo. Store hoodies and sweatshirts folded, not on a hanger, so the shoulders keep their shape. Nylon track pieces can go in a gentle cold wash and hang to dry, and anything in wool, cashmere and leather from the main collection should go to a specialist cleaner.

Our verdict

For most people the Classic Hoodie in black is the one to buy first. It is the most versatile shape, it pairs with every other Essentials piece, and the 380GSM fleece is heavy enough to feel substantial without being too warm indoors. If you already own one, the 90s Hoodie is the natural second: boxier, heavier and closer to the shapes that made the line famous. For something quieter, the Signature Hoodie drops the rubber logo for an embroidered script.
