Who Is Fabiana Filippi? The Umbrian Knitwear House, Explained
Fabiana Filippi is a family-owned Italian fashion house from Giano dell’Umbria, a small town in Umbria. It was founded in 1985 by two brothers, Mario and Giacomo Filippi Coccetta, who named it after Giacomo’s daughter. More than forty years on, it is still in the family’s hands, still makes its collections in Italy, and is still best known for the thing it started with: knitwear.
Where Fabiana Filippi comes from
The house grew up in the Umbrian countryside, the same region that is home to Brunello Cucinelli, which is why the two names come up together so often. They share a love of soft yarns and quiet colour, but they are run very differently, and we compare them side by side in Fabiana Filippi vs Brunello Cucinelli.
What has stayed constant at Fabiana Filippi is the starting point. The collections are built around the knit, and the tailoring, dresses and outerwear are designed to sit with it.
What Fabiana Filippi is known for
Platinum. This is the house’s own yarn, a blend of wool, silk and cashmere that the brand describes as exclusive to Fabiana Filippi. The Platinum pieces at Coveti this season are knitted from 75% virgin wool, 15% silk and 10% cashmere, which gives them a fine, slightly luminous hand rather than the heavier feel of pure wool.
Filo diamante. A fine line of light-catching detail that the house uses as a quiet signature. This season you will find it on the trousers, from the oversized cargo flannels to the cropped Milano stitch jersey pairs, where it reads as a glint rather than a decoration.
Understated polish. There are no big logos. The interest comes from yarn, texture and small precious touches: a gold pin on a cropped turtleneck, rhinestone embroidery on a crewneck cardigan, sequin stripes worked into a mohair sweater.
The Fall Winter 2026 collection
The new season leans into texture. Platinum knits come in raffia, mocha and black, alongside a brushed mohair and alpaca cardigan in charcoal and a Donegal lurex sweater in cachà with buttons along the sleeves. The tailoring is cut in flannel, including a safari dress with a belted waist and a Platinum knit back panel, and for evening there is a fitted sequin dress with short knit sleeves. We picked our favourites in the Fabiana Filippi Fall Winter 2026 edit.
How Fabiana Filippi fits
The house sizes its clothing on the Italian scale, and an Italian 40 is a UK 8. At Coveti every numbered piece is shown on the UK ladder, and each product page carries the brand’s own fit note, such as regular, slim, wide and oversized, plus garment measurements taken on an Italian 40. The full conversion is in our Fabiana Filippi size guide.
Who wears Fabiana Filippi
Women who want their wardrobe to work hard without announcing itself. The knitwear goes from the office to a long weekend, the flannel trousers pair with almost every knit in the collection, and the embellished pieces carry the same calm palette into the evening.
