ATP Atelier Boots: The Autumn Edit
Autumn is when this part of the ATP Atelier range earns its place. The house, founded in Stockholm in 2011 by Maj-La Pizzelli and Jonas Clason, gives its boots the same clean Scandinavian line as everything else it makes. What changes from family to family is the height of the shaft and the heel, so that is how this guide is organised.

Ankle boots
Five families stop at the ankle, with shafts of 12 cm to 15 cm. The heel is what separates them.
Melfi and Nemoli, on a 3.5 cm heel
The Melfi is the shortest boot in the range, a 12 cm shaft in shiny nappa leather, in Black and Grumello. The shine makes it the dressier of the two. The Nemoli rises to 14 cm and comes in black calf leather and in Walnut suede. For one ankle boot to wear every day, this is it.
Trino and Praia, on a 5.5 cm heel
The Trino is black calf leather only, on a 14 cm shaft. The Praia goes a centimetre higher in the shaft and comes in black nappa and Walnut suede. Both sit well under a straight trouser.
Miola, on a 6.5 cm heel
The Miola has the highest heel of the ankle boots, at 6.5 cm, on a 15 cm shaft in calf leather. It comes in Black and Cannella, and the Cannella suits an autumn wardrobe of camel and denim.
Mid-height boots
Three families sit between the ankle and the knee. The Feltre has a 16 cm shaft in calf leather, in Black and Walnut. The Sirone goes to 21 cm, in black calf. The Cerone reaches 22 cm on a 5.5 cm heel and is the only boot cut from stretch suede, in Black, Peltro and Walnut. Stretch suede follows the leg closely, so the Cerone is the one to try under a midi skirt.
Knee high boots
Two families go to the knee, both in calf leather on a 44 cm shaft. The Erve stays almost flat, on a 1 cm heel, and comes in black. The Sarconi rises to a 6.5 cm heel and comes in Black and Cannella. Choose the Erve for walking and for slim trousers tucked in. Choose the Sarconi when you want the extra height under a skirt.
The Verbania rubber boot
The Verbania is the odd one out. It comes from the ATP Atelier collaboration with Tretorn, and it is designed in Sweden and not made in Italy. It is moulded rubber with a textile lining on a 39 cm shaft, in black, and sizes start at EU 36. This is the boot for wet pavements, and it spares the leather pairs the worst of the weather.
How to choose
Ankle versus knee high
Ankle boots work with straight and wide trousers, with jeans and with anything cropped above the ankle. Knee highs come into their own with skirts and dresses at the knee and below, and with slim trousers tucked in. If you can only have one pair this autumn, the ankle boot will see more wear.
Flat versus heel
The flattest boot in the range is the Erve, on 1 cm. The 3.5 cm heels on the Melfi and Nemoli are low enough for a full day of errands. The 5.5 cm and 6.5 cm heels on the Trino, Praia, Cerone, Miola and Sarconi give more lift while staying easy to walk in.
Sizing
Every ATP Atelier boot runs true to size. The leather boots are cut on an Italian last in EU 35 to 42, so take your usual European size. The Verbania runs from EU 36 to 42. Measure your foot at the end of the day, in the socks you plan to wear with the boots. If you fall between sizes on a closed boot, take the larger size: leather relaxes a little across the width with wear, but it does not gain length. If tall boots are usually snug across your calf, the stretch suede Cerone gives more than the calf leather Erve and Sarconi. The full conversion table is in the ATP Atelier shoe size guide.
Caring for leather boots
Put boot shapers in the knee highs between wears so the shaft does not crease at the ankle. Brush suede with a suede brush after each outing, and treat it with a protective spray before the first wet day. Give calf and nappa a neutral leather cream a few times a season. If a pair gets wet, stuff it with paper and let it dry slowly, away from radiators. Rest each pair for a day between wears so the lining can dry out. The Verbania needs only a rinse and a wipe. Browse every style on the boots page and the ATP Atelier brand page.
