Bernadette Velvet: The AW26 Velvet Dresses, Bags and Slippers

Velvet is the fabric of the Bernadette Autumn Winter 2026 collection. The Antwerp house uses it plain, in a deep red and a black, and printed with its own hand-drawn hydrangea, and it adds velvet bodices to two of its two-fabric dresses. Coveti has 9 Bernadette dresses made in velvet, some of them with a velvet bodice only, this season, from $1,240 to $2,720, plus velvet bucket bags and velvet house slippers. Here is each piece, the fibre behind it and how to look after it.

Key facts

  • Velvet dresses: 9 at Coveti on 12 October 2026, $1,240 to $2,720.
  • The plain velvets: red (Dress Camille) and black (Dress Luna, Dress Julie).
  • The printed velvet: Dress Roxy, the house hydrangea in pink on green, in a viscose and silk velvet.
  • Two-fabric dresses: Midi Dress Inez and Mini Dress Yael pair a velvet top with a contrasting skirt.
  • Beyond dresses: embroidered velvet bucket bags and silk velvet slippers, both hand-embroidered in India.

Red velvet

Dress Camille in Red Velvet is the season’s red: a floor-length viscose and polyamide velvet with a V-neckline, wide shoulder straps and a bow at the bust, made in Romania. It is the most direct festive dress in the line, and the colour does the work, so keep the rest of the look plain. The same red velvet forms the fitted top of Midi Dress Inez, where it meets a powder rose taffeta skirt that stops just below the knee.

Black velvet

Dress Luna is a strapless bustier column in a black eco viscose velvet, the simplest dress in the collection and the one the house calls a festive classic. Dress Julie is the black velvet bustier with a fuller skirt. Mini Dress Yael in Black and Hydrangea Green on Black puts a sleeveless black velvet top over a short skirt in the house green hydrangea print, for a party that does not ask for floor length. The black dresses guide covers the full black line.

Printed velvet

Dress Roxy is the piece that only Bernadette makes: the hand-drawn hydrangea printed in pink on a green velvet ground, cut as a floor-length gown with short sleeves and a closed neck. Printed velvet takes colour more softly than silk, so the print reads slightly blurred and very rich. It is the dress for a winter wedding where a plain colour would feel too severe.

Caring for velvet

Velvet is a pile fabric, which means its surface is made of short upright fibres. Crushing them leaves marks, so hang velvet dresses with space around them, never fold them, and steam from the reverse instead of pressing. Dry clean only. If the pile flattens at the seat after a long dinner, steam it and brush it gently in the direction of the pile. The velvet slippers and bags are spot clean only. More detail is in the materials and care guide.
