Bernadette Antwerp is cut on the European ladder, EU 34 to 46, and states its fit on every product page in one sentence. Knitwear sold in letter sizes rides the same rungs, so an EU 36 and a size S are the same garment, and Coveti shows the letter ladder on those pieces. The two Classic Pumps are made in Italy in whole EU sizes 35 to 41; the house says they fit true to size.

The house publishes body measurements against each EU size in centimetres and inches. These are body, not garment, measurements, so measure yourself and read across.

The model line

Every ready-to-wear page names the model and her size. Across the current stock: Emilia is 172 cm and wears EU 36; May is 170 cm and wears EU 36; Juli is 176 cm and wears EU 36; Puck is 174 cm and wears EU 36; Tumbush is 173 cm and wears EU 36. So the photographs show a UK 8 on a woman between 170 and 176 cm, which is a useful check on where a hem falls on you.

The fit sentence, style by style

True to size, fitted: the Camille skirts (Camille Knee Length Skirt in Check Cream, Brown and Pink), the Chuck Knee Length Skirt in Black, the Atticus top and dress (Dress Atticus in Black), which the house says are made for a fitted silhouette.

True to size, with a between-sizes note: the three Ezra dresses (Dress Ezra in Hydrangea Green on Black): size up if you sit between two sizes. The Long Skirt Chuck in Rosebranches Red on Black: size down if you sit between two sizes.

True to size, lined: the Lena dresses, the Roxette dresses, Dette, Eleni, Julie, Will, Madeline, Lenny, Beatrice, Maya, Bowery, Lina, Rosette, Dara, Baby, Katt, Katia, Oscar, the Louis pyjamas and the peignoirs, which the house lists as true to size without qualification.

Oversized by design, take your usual size: the Kane Sweater in Mint Hydrangea Intarsia on Camel, the Pull Sharon in Red Cherries Embroidered on Cream, the Everett Shirt Lingerie Embroidered in White Lingerie Rose Embroidery on Optic White (cut for an oversized fit and true to size), the Louis pyjama shirt, and the Short Dress George in Black, which the house says fits oversized and fits most sizes. The Cardigan Amelia in Blue Berries Intarsia on Plum is designed for a shorter, cosy fit and fits slightly oversized.

Runs large, size down: the Kira Cardigan in Ruby Red Pointelle. The house says it fits large to size and recommends sizing down for a more fitted silhouette. The Storm Grey and Lingerie Roses colourways carry the plain true-to-size sentence.

One size: the brooches, the bags, the 65 cm silk scarves, the socks and the long gloves.

Coveti’s own advice

Three things the house does not say. The drawstring at the hip on the Camille and Katia skirts gives a few centimetres either way, so if you sit between sizes on a skirt, take the smaller. The boned bustier dresses (Lena, Dette, Lina, Rosette) fit the ribcage rather than the bust, so measure under the bust as well. And the letter-sized knits are generous through the body; the Kane in particular wears a full size larger than the label.
