Brands Like Dice Kayek: Six Houses for Sculpted Tailoring and Crystal Detail

Dice Kayek has a very particular mix: a white shirt with a sculpted collar, short structured tailoring, a fitted dress with a full skirt and crystal decoration applied by hand. Few houses do all four, but several do one part of it very well. These are the six Coveti stocks that come closest, what each one shares with Dice Kayek and where it differs.

Key facts

  • The Dice Kayek mix: the white shirt, sculpted tailoring, structured dresses and crystal brooches and collars.
  • Closest for crystal detail: Alessandra Rich.
  • Closest for the structured dress: Roland Mouret and David Koma.
  • Closest for evening: Safiyaa.
  • Closest for the white shirt: Carolina Herrera.

1. Alessandra Rich

The closest match for the crystal work. Alessandra Rich, the London label of the Italian-born designer of the same name, is known for embellished collars, crystal bows and polka dots, and for dresses with a defined waist. If you love the Dice Kayek brooches and collars, start here.

2. Roland Mouret

The match for the sculpted dress. Roland Mouret built his name on the structured, body-shaping dress, and the cut is architectural in the same way, with more emphasis on the dress than the shirt.

3. Safiyaa

The match for evening. Safiyaa makes structured eveningwear with capes and clean, sculpted lines, close to the Dice Kayek strapless gowns and capes.

4. David Koma

The match for the party dress. David Koma cuts short, structured dresses with embellishment and a strong waist, for nights out more than the office.

5. Carolina Herrera

The match for the white shirt. The white shirt has been the Carolina Herrera signature for decades, worn with full skirts, very much the Dice Kayek formula.

6. Oscar de la Renta

The match for ladylike tailoring and embroidery. Oscar de la Renta brings the same polish with more colour and more floral decoration.

Where Dice Kayek stays different

None of these houses works between Paris and Istanbul, and none started with the white shirt alone. Dice Kayek was founded in Paris in 1992 by the Turkish sisters Ece and Ayse Ege. Ece, who trained at ESMOD in Paris, is the creative director; Ayse runs the company. In December 2013 the house won the third Jameel Prize at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London for its Istanbul Contrast couture pieces, the first fashion house to take the award. The result is a wardrobe that is quieter than most of the names above: mostly black, navy and white, with one piece of crystal at a time.

How to mix them

Dice Kayek pieces work with all six. A Dice Kayek white shirt goes under an Alessandra Rich jacket; a Dice Kayek brooch goes on a Roland Mouret dress. Start with a Dice Kayek shirt and build around it.
