Burgundy is the more interesting choice: it works with black, camel and cream, and it reads as a colour without being loud.

Care is spot clean only, which is normal for leather tailoring. If you plan to wear it with a knit underneath, check the shoulder fit on your usual size.

Carol Wool Blazer

The Carol Wool Blazer in Black, from $1,060, is the same cut in a wool blend. This is the workhorse: a black fitted blazer that goes over jeans, over a satin slip and over a suit trouser. If you buy one jacket from By Malina, make it this one.

Emelia Blazer

The Emelia Blazer in Dark Brown, from $800, is a fitted satin blazer with a V-neckline, barrel sleeves and a button front, in viscose with a viscose lining. Ella Blazer

The Ella Blazer in Black, from $800, is a tailored peplum blazer with a defined waist, double buttons and two front pockets. The peplum gives it a dressier shape, and it works closed as a top with nothing underneath.

If you prefer volume, these pieces are cut to sit loose.

Leather and faux fur

Over a dress

A fitted blazer over a satin midi is the easiest way to take an occasion dress to the office the next day.
