Colmar Size Guide: Italian Sizes to UK, US and EU
Colmar sizes its women’s ski jackets, trousers and suits in Italian sizes from IT 38 to IT 50, and the anchor point is simple: IT 42 is a UK 10, a US 6, a French 38 and a German 36. Every piece in the Colmar ski edit at Coveti is listed on the UK ladder, from women’s ski trousers and salopettes such as the Dressy Softshell Ski Trousers in Black, $520 at Coveti, to padded jackets and one-piece suits.
The short answer: add 32 to your UK size to find the Colmar Italian size, so UK 10 becomes IT 42 and UK 14 becomes IT 46. For a US size, add 36, so US 6 becomes IT 42. If you sit between two sizes, Colmar’s chest, waist and hip ranges decide.
That rule covers jackets, trousers, salopettes and suits. Fleeces, sweatshirts and base layers use letter sizes instead, and Colmar names three fits, Regular, Slim and Comfort, which change how a given size sits on the body. This guide walks through each of those, then the table below gives Colmar’s full chart with the conversions side by side.
The Italian size ladder
Italian women’s sizes rise in steps of two: 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50. Colmar uses that ladder for its outerwear, its padded and softshell trousers, its salopettes and its one-piece suits. A few styles go one step further to IT 52 at the source, among them the Niseiko Ski Jacket in Black and White, $790 at Coveti, and the Prize Padded Ski Trousers in Black, $610 at Coveti. Coveti does not stock IT 52, so our range for those styles runs IT 38 to IT 50, which is UK 6 to UK 18.
The ladder is the same for jackets and trousers, which helps when you buy a matching set. If you wear IT 44 in a Colmar jacket, the matching trouser in IT 44 is cut for the same body measurements. Your hips and waist may still point to a different size below the belt, and there is nothing wrong with buying the two halves in different sizes when your measurements say so.
Converting Colmar sizes to UK, US, FR and DE
Colmar’s own match is IT 42 to FR and ES 38, to DE 36 and to US 6. Coveti sets the UK column from that, so IT 42 is listed as UK 10. Every other size moves in step. IT 40 is UK 8, US 4, FR 36 and DE 34. IT 44 is UK 12, US 8, FR 40 and DE 38. At the top of the stocked range, IT 50 is UK 18, US 14, FR 46 and DE 44.
At the small end, IT 38 is UK 6, US 2 and FR 34. Colmar does not publish a German equivalent for IT 38, so the table below leaves that cell marked as not published. Shoppers in Austria and Switzerland can read the DE column, which the table below labels for all three countries.
One practical habit helps. Write down your size in two systems you already know, say UK and US, and confirm that both point to the same Italian size. If they disagree, the body measurements decide.
How to read the measurements
The chart gives body measurements, not garment measurements. That distinction matters for skiwear, because a padded jacket is cut with room for the padding and for layers. You compare your own chest, waist and hips with the ranges, and the garment is already built around them.
Measure over a thin base layer, not over a jumper. Take the chest at its fullest point with the tape level across the back, the waist at its narrowest, and the hips at their fullest. At IT 42 Colmar’s ranges are 86 to 90 cm at the chest, 66 to 70 cm at the waist and 92 to 96 cm at the hips. Each step up the ladder adds about 4 cm at all three points.
Most women fall into different sizes at different points. For a jacket, the chest figure carries the most weight. For trousers and salopettes, the hips and waist matter more. A one-piece suit needs all three to agree, and also the length of the body, which we come to below.
Letter sizes: fleeces, sweatshirts and base layers
The mid-layers and base layers use letters. Fleeces and most sweatshirts run XS to XL, and the Half-Zip Stretch Ski Fleece in Black at $310 at Coveti is a good example. The national team softshell and team sweatshirts run wider, XXS to XXL, as on the Austrian National Team Softshell Jacket in Black, $640 at Coveti. The Austrian Team racing suit is sized XS to XXL.
The Dryarn seamless base layers use two combined sizes, S/M and L/XL. The Dryarn Seamless Thermal Trousers in Eclipse Grey are $260 at Coveti and come in those two sizes only. Seamless knits stretch to the body, which is why two sizes can cover the range. Colmar’s other thermal pieces, such as the Technical Microfibre Bodysuit in Black at $320 at Coveti, use the standard XS to XL scale.
Colmar does not publish a conversion from letters to Italian sizes. The one fixed point it does give is the model: the women who model the line wear IT 42 in numbered sizes and S in letter sizes. That is a guide to how the house dresses one body, not a rule that every IT 42 is an S.
Regular, Slim and Comfort fit
Colmar names a fit on each product page, and the three behave differently. Regular is the default across most of the jackets, the padded trousers, the team pieces and the fleeces. It leaves room for a mid-layer without looking boxy. The Yin & Yang Ski Jacket in Black, $940 at Coveti, is a Regular fit with 140 g of Repreve wadding.
Slim is cut closer. It covers the leggings, the shaped salopettes, the Captivating trousers, the one-piece suits and the base layers. The Softshell Ski Leggings in Black are a Slim fit at $450 at Coveti, built from stretch softshell. A slim piece in your usual size will feel close at the thigh and the waist, which is the intention.
Comfort is the roomiest. Colmar uses it on most of the down jackets and on the padded 3L shell. The Mirea Glossy Ski Down Jacket in Black is a Comfort fit at $1,020 at Coveti, and the Ritmo Crop Ski Down Jacket in Black and Incense White is a cropped Comfort fit at $1,180 at Coveti. With a Comfort fit you already have space for a fleece underneath, so there is less reason to size up.
Model heights and length
Colmar’s women’s models are 173 to 177 cm tall and wear IT 42 (UK 10). That gives you a sense of length. If you are around that height, sleeve and leg lengths on the product images will look on you roughly as they do on the model. If you are shorter, trousers will sit longer at the boot, which most ski trousers allow for, since the hem sits over the boot cuff. Several Colmar softshell trousers have a hem that adjusts with a zip and button, which helps.
If you are taller than the models, check sleeve length first on jackets, and inside leg on trousers. Colmar does not publish garment lengths in the chart, so we do not give figures here.
Salopettes and one-piece suits
Salopettes and suits add one more measurement to think about: the length of your torso. A bib that is too short pulls at the shoulders when you bend, and a suit that is too short will drag at the crotch when you sit on a chairlift. Colmar does not publish torso length figures, so the honest advice is to test the fit when the piece arrives. Put it on over your base layer, squat, reach forward as if to buckle a boot, and lift both arms. Nothing should tug.
The Shape Softshell Ski Salopettes in White are a Slim fit at $690 at Coveti, so they sit close at the waist and hip. The Austrian National Team Salopettes in Black are a Regular fit at $780 at Coveti, with more room for layers. Our guide to Colmar ski trousers and salopettes compares them in full, and the Coveti guide to women’s ski bibs covers bib fit in general.
All the one-piece suits are Slim. The Desire Padded Ski Suit in Black is $1,410 at Coveti in IT 38 to IT 50, and the racing suit, at $870 at Coveti, is a different garment altogether: a close race cut in letter sizes, meant for gates, not for the resort. Our guide to Colmar ski suits explains how a suit fits against separates.
Should you go up a size for layering?
This is your call, and it depends on how you ski. Colmar sizes its outerwear to body measurements and does not tell you to size up. Some skiers like a little more room under a Regular jacket, for a thick fleece on cold days. If that is you, and your chest sits at the top of a size range, the next size up is a reasonable choice. If you sit in the middle of a range, your usual size will usually take a fleece and a base layer without trouble.
We would not size up in a Slim fit unless your measurements say so, because the cut is meant to stay close. The same applies to a Comfort fit, which already has room built in. Before you decide, read our guide on how to layer for skiing, and see our piece on Colmar fleeces and base layers for what sits under the shell. If a size does not work out, the details are on our returns page.
Care keeps the fit
Most Colmar pieces machine wash at a maximum of 30 degrees C. Do not bleach, do not tumble dry and do not dry clean. A cool wash and air drying are the safest way to keep a piece the size you bought it. Some styles with faux-fur trims have “detachable fur for easy care”, so remove the trim before washing.
Colmar sizing around the world
For US buyers, the quick conversion is IT 42 to US 6, with each Italian step of two matching one US step of two. US ski trips to the Rockies tend to mean cold, dry days and long lifts, so many US buyers pair a Regular jacket with a warm fleece. Prices at Coveti are in US dollars.
UK buyers have it easiest, because Coveti already lists Colmar on the UK ladder, IT 38 to IT 50 as UK 6 to UK 18. Alpine weeks in February and at Easter can be wet as well as cold, which argues for a shell over a thinner mid-layer, not a bulky one.
EU buyers can use Colmar’s own match: IT 42 is FR and ES 38, DE 36. Buyers in Austria and Switzerland read the DE column. Resorts across the Alps and the Dolomites swing between cold mornings and soft afternoons, so a layering system you can strip down is worth more than an oversized jacket.
GCC buyers often start at Ski Dubai, where a fleece and a softshell trouser are plenty, before travel to the Alps, Japan and the Rockies. Size for the colder trip, with room for the layers you will wear there. Coveti is London-based, every piece is 100% authentic, and we ship worldwide. Our guide to who Colmar is covers the house itself, and the full Colmar brand page at Coveti lists every size in stock.

How we measured: chest, waist and hip ranges and the FR, DE and US equivalents are Colmar’s own women’s size chart, published on its product pages (read on 1 November 2026). The UK column is the size Coveti lists, set from Colmar’s match of IT 42 to FR 38 and US 6. Body measurements, not garment measurements.
Frequently asked questions
What UK size is a Colmar IT 42?
A Colmar IT 42 is a UK 10. Colmar matches IT 42 to FR and ES 38, DE 36 and US 6, and Coveti lists it as UK 10. The rest of the ladder moves in step, so IT 40 is UK 8, IT 44 is UK 12 and IT 50 is UK 18. Check your chest, waist and hips against the chart as well.
Does Colmar run small?
Colmar sizes to body measurements, so the chart is more reliable than a general feeling about the brand. At IT 42 the ranges are 86 to 90 cm at the chest, 66 to 70 cm at the waist and 92 to 96 cm at the hips. Slim pieces sit close by design, while Comfort pieces leave more room.
Should I size up in Colmar for layering?
That is your choice, and Colmar does not tell you to. If you sit at the top of a size range and like a thick fleece under a Regular jacket, the next size up is reasonable. In the middle of a range, your usual size normally takes a base layer and a fleece. Avoid sizing up in Slim and Comfort cuts.
What size do Colmar models wear?
Colmar’s women’s models are 173 to 177 cm tall and wear IT 42, which is UK 10, in jackets, trousers and suits. In letter sizes they wear S. That is a useful reference for length on the product images, though it is not a conversion between letter and Italian sizes, which Colmar does not publish.
Does Coveti stock Colmar in IT 52?
No. A few Colmar styles, such as the Niseiko jacket and the Prize padded trousers, go to IT 52 at the source, but Coveti stocks IT 38 to IT 50, which is UK 6 to UK 18. In Colmar’s chart IT 52 matches US 16, FR 48 and DE 46, with a chest range of 106 to 110 cm.
How do Colmar base layers fit?
The Dryarn seamless base layers come in two combined sizes, S/M and L/XL, and are a Slim fit, so they sit close against the skin. Other thermal pieces, such as the microfibre bodysuit and the half-zip thermal sweatshirts, use XS to XL. All of them are cut close, which keeps them flat under a fleece.
