La DoubleJ Shirts and Blouses: Peggy, Poet, Boy and Cerere
Silk shirts sit close to the heart of La DoubleJ. J.J. Martin, an American journalist who has lived in Italy since 2001, set the house up in Milan around print on print, and a printed shirt is the easiest way into that idea. You can tuck one into jeans on a Tuesday and wear the same shirt with a matching skirt for a wedding. The shirts and blouses below are all made in Italy.
The range splits roughly into tailored shirts, romantic shirts with volume, and soft blouses. I have taken them in that order.
| Style | Fabric | Fit | Signature detail | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peggy Shirt | Cotton | Slightly oversized, boxy drop shoulder | Pleated contrast plastron, high-low hem | Office, gallery dinners |
| Boy Shirt | Silk twill, cotton lace | Straight, regular to loose | Back box pleat, curved hem | Every day, with jeans |
| Poet Shirt | Cotton poplin | Generous tent shape, pull-on | Full sleeves, half placket | Loose over trousers |
| Foulard Shirt | Silk twill | Oversized, waterfall drape | Korean collar, placed print | Work, over swimwear |
| Cerere Blouse | Silk organdie, silk voile, viscose, cotton | Feminine, puff sleeves | Detachable neck sash | Weddings, lunches |
| Boho Blouse | Viscose jacquard | Oversized | Frilled hem, tie V neck | Weekends, holidays |
| Grace Shirt | Cotton | Boxy, high-low | Scarab button, ruffled cuff | A white shirt with a twist |
The Peggy Shirt
The Peggy belongs to the Autumn Winter 2026 collection. La DoubleJ named it with the collector Peggy Guggenheim and her Venice gallery in mind. It is a slightly oversized take on a tuxedo shirt in cotton, with a boxy drop shoulder, a contrast plastron set with pleats down the front and a high-low hem. The brand makes a two-tone version and a version with a geometric print panel.
If you like more room, the Oversize Peggy Shirt in White takes the same details into a bigger cut. I would wear the Peggy tucked into wide trousers for work and loose over a slim skirt at night. Both versions come in letter sizes XXS to XXL; with the oversized one, your usual size already gives you the volume.
Tailored shirts
Boy Shirt
The Boy Shirt is the house classic: a straight button-down with slightly gathered sleeves that land at the wrist, a box pleat at the back and a curved hem. The Lemuria Black version is glossy silk twill made on the shores of Lake Como, with silk-covered buttons down the front and on the cuffs. Coveti also carries the Boy Shirt in Kells Swirl Burgundy.
For something without print, the Boy Shirt in White is made in embroidered cotton lace, cut slightly loose and straight, 66cm long. It pairs a masculine shape with a very feminine fabric and works with dark denim and a pencil skirt alike.
Better Than Your Boyfriend’s Shirt
The Better Than Your Boyfriend’s Shirt in Bounty Orange is the boxy one, 80cm long, in cotton poplin with an oversized button-down collar, a patch pocket at the chest and button cuffs. The Bounty print is placed by hand. Wear it over a swimsuit, with jeans, and with a printed pencil skirt.
Grace Shirt and Fitted Shirt
The Grace Shirt in White is a boxy cotton button-down with a high-low hem, a hidden button placket, ruffled cuffs and a scarab on the button. If you want the opposite, the Fitted Shirt in Macro Jive Ecru is a slim, tailored shirt in a stretch jersey with an all-over print that follows the body.
Romantic shirts: Poet and Foulard
Poet Shirt
The Poet Shirt is a tent shape in crisp cotton poplin with full sleeves, pleats at the back and a button placket that stops halfway down, so you pull it over your head. It is 65cm long. The black version looks right with almost anything, left loose over trousers and tucked in when you want a waist. There is also a Pineapple Lace White version in a cotton and silk jacquard.
Foulard Shirt and Mini Foulard Shirt
The Foulard Shirt in Lemuria Blue is part shirt, part poncho. It is an oversized silk twill with a Korean collar, buttons down the front and a waterfall drape off the arms, which shows off a placed print well. Wear it with black trousers to the office, and open over a swimsuit at the beach. The Mini Foulard Shirt in Plume Ivory is the cropped version in cotton muslin, with shorter sleeves and the hand-placed Plume Placee print in orange and olive on cream.
La DoubleJ blouses
Cerere Blouse
The Cerere is the most feminine piece in the edit. It has a V neck, puff sleeves and a detachable sash at the neck that fastens through loops, so you can tie it in a bow, wear it as a belt and leave it off altogether. The Cerere Blouse in Dusty Pink is in a light silk organdie with a hand-placed Fun-gi print. Other versions are in silk voile, viscose and cotton, and the Cerere Blouse in Coven Pink is also on Coveti. It is a strong choice for a wedding with a matching skirt; see our La DoubleJ wedding guest guide.
Boho Blouse
The Boho Blouse in Brick Red is a long-sleeve viscose jacquard in an oversized cut, with wide sleeves, a frilled hem and a V neckline that ties. It is soft and loose and looks good with rings on show at the cuff.
How to wear a La DoubleJ shirt
- Match it to a skirt in the same print for a two-piece that reads like a dress. See the skirts guide.
- Put a printed silk shirt with plain denim during the week, sleeves rolled.
- Layer a knit gilet over a Boy Shirt and Poet Shirt in autumn. Our knitwear guide covers the gilets.
- Throw the Foulard and Boyfriend shirts over swimwear on holiday.
Which size to buy
La DoubleJ ready-to-wear is cut true to size, and none of these shirts has its own sizing note, so order your usual size. Most come in letter sizes from XXS to XXL; a few, including the Grace Shirt, are listed in UK sizes 4 to 18. Oversized cuts like the Foulard, Boho and Oversize Peggy are roomy by design. For conversions see the La DoubleJ size guide; delivery and returns terms are on our returns page.
Frequently asked questions
What is the La DoubleJ Peggy Shirt?
The Peggy Shirt is a slightly oversized cotton tuxedo shirt from La DoubleJ’s Autumn Winter 2026 collection. It has a boxy drop shoulder, a pleated contrast plastron and a high-low hem. An Oversize Peggy Shirt offers the same details in a bigger cut.
Is a La DoubleJ silk shirt worth it?
La DoubleJ silk shirts are made in Italy, and the Boy Shirt uses silk twill made on the shores of Lake Como with silk-covered buttons. Many prints are placed by hand so the motif lands in the right spot. If you want a printed shirt you can wear with jeans and with a matching skirt, it earns its place.
What is La DoubleJ known for?
La DoubleJ is a Milan label founded in 2015 by American journalist J.J. Martin. It is known for print on print dressing, with swing dresses, silk shirts, scarves and pochettes in joyful prints made to be mixed. Its first collection used prints from the archive of Mantero, a historic Como silk house.
What is the difference between the Boy Shirt and the Foulard Shirt?
The Boy Shirt is a straight, classic button-down with a back box pleat and a curved hem. The Foulard Shirt is oversized, with a Korean collar and a waterfall drape off the arms that makes it feel part shirt, part poncho. Both are made in Italy, and the silk versions are silk twill.
Do La DoubleJ shirts run large?
No. La DoubleJ ready-to-wear is cut true to size, so order your usual size. Some styles, such as the Foulard Shirt, Boho Blouse and Oversize Peggy Shirt, are oversized by design and will feel roomy at your normal size.
How do you wear the Cerere Blouse sash?
The Cerere Blouse has a detachable sash at the neck that fastens through loops. You can tie it as a bow at the collar, wear it as a belt at the waist and remove it for a plain V neck. The blouse has puff sleeves and is made in Italy.
Is the Poet Shirt a pull-on style?
Yes. The Poet Shirt has a button placket that stops mid-body, so it goes on over the head. It is a generous tent shape in cotton poplin with full sleeves and pleats at the back, made in Italy.
