Markarian Review 2026: Is Markarian Worth It?

Our Markarian review verdict: yes, Markarian is worth it if you want New York-made occasionwear with real structure. Every piece we stock is made in the USA, almost all are fully lined in silk, and much of the work is made to order. The trade-off is a fitted, formal cut. Shop Markarian and compare it with our evening gowns edit.

Who is Markarian?

Markarian is a New York eveningwear and occasionwear label founded in 2017 by designer Alexandra O’Neill. The name comes from Markarian’s Chain, a radiant grouping of galaxies, not from a family name. O’Neill has been a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 and was named an FGI Rising Star. The label reached a much wider audience in January 2021, when Dr. Jill Biden wore a custom ocean-blue Markarian dress and matching coat for the Presidential Inauguration.

Craftsmanship: what you are paying for

Three things set Markarian apart on the rail.

  • Made in New York. Markarian is designed, produced and hand-finished in New York City’s Garment District, and every Markarian piece on Coveti carries a Made in the USA label.
  • Silk linings. Almost every piece is fully lined in 100% silk. All 16 Fall 2026 pieces are, and so are the Markarian x Over The Moon styles.
  • Made to order. Much of the work is made to order to reduce waste, which keeps production close to demand.

The embellishment is worth looking at closely. The Mirage Sequin Embellished Midi Skirt has gold sequins hand-applied across black dupioni, and the matching Lily Sequin Embellished Drape Top is hand-embellished in the same way. The Aziza Beaded Slip Gown is covered in sapphire, onyx and ivory-toned beads and sequins from strap to hem.

Design: the signature shapes

Markarian works with a handful of house shapes and changes the cloth from season to season. The three you will see again and again:

This consistency is a strength for buyers. Once a corset midi fits you, the next one in a new fabric should fit in a similar way. Our Markarian dresses guide walks through every silhouette.

Fabric quality

The Fall 2026 brocade is a blend of 36% viscose, 33% cotton, 12% metallised polyester, 11% polyester and 8% polyamide. It has weight and a soft sheen, and it holds the corset shapes cleanly. The Neroli gown uses an acetate and viscose satin with a 100% silk velvet trim. Coquette and Savannah are 100% cotton, scattered with gold and bronze sequin flowers. Pre-Fall pieces lean lighter: the Marina Maroon Midi Dress is 100% viscose crinkle chiffon.

Some fabrics are blends with polyester, and a few Pre-Fall styles skip the silk lining. That is normal for structured taffeta and printed chiffon, but it is worth knowing if you buy for fibre content alone.

Fit: what to expect

Markarian runs true to size in standard US sizing (US 0 to 14), and Coveti lists it in UK sizes, which are the US size plus 4. The corset styles are fitted by design, so they feel close and supported. Relaxed shapes such as the Coquette Sequined Cotton Midi Dress are easier. Our Markarian size guide has the full table.

The considerations

A balanced Markarian review has to cover the points that will not suit everyone.

  • The cut is fitted. If you prefer loose dresses, the corset midis will feel structured. Choose Coquette, Marina and the Ila trouser instead.
  • It is occasionwear first. There are daytime pieces, but the heart of the label is evening and event dressing.
  • Care takes effort. Brocade, sequins and beading need dry cleaning, spot cleaning and careful storage on a padded hanger.

Who Markarian suits

Markarian suits women who go to a lot of weddings, galas and holiday events and want one piece that looks considered without much styling. It suits brides too: Markarian tags Althea, Ginevra, Maisie and Mira for the bridal after-party. If you like a defined waist and a clean neckline, it is an easy label to build around. I would start with a corset midi in a fabric you will wear for years, then add a gown.

If you want to compare before you buy, our brands like Markarian guide covers Oscar de la Renta, Brandon Maxwell and other New York occasionwear houses. For outfit ideas, read how to style Markarian.

Where to start with Markarian

  • First wedding of the season: a corset midi such as Ginevra in silver brocade, which moves from ceremony to dinner with a change of shoes.
  • Black tie: the Clover Silver Gown, the most formal of the new brocade pieces. Our Markarian gown guide compares all seven gowns.
  • Holiday parties: the Maisie and Mira set, which also splits into a top for dinner and shorts with tights for a party.
  • Daytime events: Coquette in white cotton with gold and bronze sequin flowers, the softest fit in the collection.
