Suede against faux suede

Real suede is split leather with the nap raised. It drapes, it softens with use and it takes colour beautifully, which is why so many designer soft totes come in suede. It is also delicate: rain leaves marks, oil stains set, and it needs a protector spray before the first wear. Faux suede imitates the nap with a brushed microfibre. It is lighter, it shrugs off light rain, it costs a fraction of the price and, in the JW PEI versions, it is fully vegan. How to care for a suede tote

For real suede: spray with a suede protector before wearing, brush in one direction with a suede brush after use, and treat a water mark by dampening the whole panel evenly and letting it dry away from heat. For faux suede: brush lightly, spot clean with a barely damp cloth, and keep it away from heat, which can flatten the nap.
