Oscar de la Renta, the founder
Oscar de la Renta was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on 22 July 1932. He studied painting in Madrid, trained under Cristóbal Balenciaga in Spain and worked at Lanvin in Paris as assistant to Antonio del Castillo. He moved to New York, worked for Elizabeth Arden and then Jane Derby, and built his own house from there. He dressed First Ladies including Jacqueline Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush, and designed Amal Clooney’s 2014 wedding gown. He died at home in Kent, Connecticut, on 20 October 2014. Read the full story in who is Oscar de la Renta?.
Peter Copping
The British designer Peter Copping, formerly creative director of Nina Ricci, was named creative director in late 2014 and led the collections until July 2016.
Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim
Garcia and Kim had both worked under the founder before launching Monse in 2015. They returned as co-creative directors in September 2016 and stayed for almost ten years. Their Oscar de la Renta was younger and more playful, with bigger prints, more colour and a strong line in knitwear and separates, while keeping the house’s embroidery and its Dominican florals. They remain shareholders with a seat on the board.
Their final collection: Fall 2026
Fall 2026 is the last collection designed by Garcia and Kim. The house describes tulips, poppies, hydrangeas and peonies, lightweight wool tailoring made to look like denim, and argyle in claret and cigar. See our Fall 2026 edit. These Fall 2026 pieces are at Coveti now:

What happens next
The house showed Spring 2027 in Munich at the end of September 2026 and credited it to Oscar de la Renta rather than to a named designer. Until a creative director is announced, the collections are designed by the house studio. We will update this page when that changes. Meanwhile, see Oscar de la Renta Spring 2027.
