No, Moncler fur is a thing of the past: the brand stopped using animal fur after its Fall/Winter 2023 collection, the last to include it. Key Facts

  • Moncler announced on 25 January 2022, working with the Italian animal rights group LAV, that it would stop using animal fur.
  • Fall/Winter 2023 was the last Moncler collection to feature fur.
  • Moncler joined the Fur Free Retailer programme run by the Fur Free Alliance.
  • Shearling is leather with the hair left on; Moncler names the animal (sheep, lamb, goat) in each composition.
  • Moncler down is certified under its DIST Protocol, in place since 2015, which bans live-plucking and force-feeding.

Does Moncler still use real fur?

Moncler does not use real fur in its current collections. In January 2022 the company said it would phase out animal fur, and the press release from the Fur Free Alliance confirmed that Fall/Winter 2023 would be the last collection to feature it. You can read the announcement on the FOUR PAWS press page and Moncler’s listing on Fur Free Retailer.

So a new women’s jacket bought for winter 2026/27 has no fur on it. What you will see on some pieces is shearling, and that is a different material.

What about older Moncler jackets?

Moncler pieces from Fall/Winter 2023 and earlier may carry real fur trims, often on the hood. If you are buying pre-owned, read the care and composition label inside the jacket, which lists every material. Our guide on how to tell if Moncler is real explains the authentication label too.

What is the difference between fur and shearling?

Fur is an animal pelt kept for its hair; shearling is sheepskin, lambskin and goatskin tanned with the wool left on, which the fashion trade treats as leather. That is why a brand can be fur-free and still sell shearling. Moncler’s product pages describe it plainly, with lines such as “detachable long-haired sheepskin trim” in the features list and “sheep shearling trim” in the composition.

Material What it is From an animal? In Moncler’s current women’s range?
Animal fur A pelt kept for its hair, such as fox Yes No, last used in Fall/Winter 2023
Shearling Sheep, lamb and goat skin with the wool left on Yes Yes, on trims, collars and some jackets, listed per piece
Down The soft under-feathers of geese, used as insulation Yes Yes, certified under the DIST Protocol
Teddy fleece A deep-pile polyester fabric No Yes, on some gilets and linings

Which Moncler women’s jackets use shearling?

About 50 of the 370 pieces in Coveti’s Moncler women’s edit use shearling, mostly as a trim on a hood and collar. Moncler states the animal each time, so you know exactly what you are buying.

Hooded down jackets with a sheepskin trim

The Boed in Light Beige is a Regular fit short down jacket in water-repellent longue saison, with an elastic belt and a hood whose long-haired sheepskin trim detaches. That last detail matters: remove it and the jacket has no animal hair at all. The longer Boedic in Black follows the same idea at 95 cm from collar to hem, and the Leersies in Black adds a belt and a nylon satin shell. For a softer colour, the Cupidones in Light Pink pairs a Slim fit with a sheep shearling trim.

Goat and lamb shearling

Not all of it is sheep. The Laichefur in White lists a goat shearling trim, and the Majestueux in Black lists lamb shearling. If you want to avoid one animal in particular, the composition line on each product page is the place to check.

A shearling-collar cape

The mohair, alpaca and wool blend cape in Black has a detachable long-haired shearling collar in goat, and it comes in one size. Our guide to Moncler capes for women covers the down, wool and shearling-collar styles.

Which Moncler jackets contain no animal hair?

Most of the range has no shearling at all, though nearly every padded piece is filled with down. The Maire in Black is all nylon laque with a detachable hood and no trim. The Teddy Hooded Insulated Gilet in Black looks furry but is made of polyester teddy fleece, with down inside. For more sleeveless styles, see Moncler vests for women, and for trim-free short jackets, our edit of Moncler short down jackets.

If you want no animal materials at all, look for the unpadded windbreakers and padded pieces filled with polyester; the composition line shows “polyester padding” where that applies. For the faux route across other labels, see the best faux fur coats for women.

Is Moncler down ethically sourced?

Moncler says all its down meets its own DIST Protocol, short for Down Integrity System and Traceability. Under it, down comes only from farmed geese as a by-product of the food chain, live-plucking and force-feeding are banned, and farms are checked by third-party auditors paid by Moncler. The details are on dist.moncler.com.

Down is still an animal product, so a fur-free jacket is not the same as a vegan one. Our guide to Moncler jackets for women explains how DIST down fits into each style, and the Moncler size chart for women helps once you have chosen.

No, Moncler no longer uses real fur. It announced the decision on 25 January 2022, and Fall/Winter 2023 was the last Moncler collection to feature fur. Some current pieces use shearling, which is listed on each product page.

When did Moncler go fur-free?

Moncler announced in January 2022, with the Italian group LAV, that it would stop using animal fur. Its Fall/Winter 2023 collection was the last to include fur, so collections from Spring/Summer 2024 onward are fur-free. Moncler also joined the Fur Free Retailer programme.

Is the shearling on Moncler jackets real?

Yes, the shearling Moncler uses is real sheepskin, lambskin and goatskin with the wool left on. Moncler names the animal in each composition, for example “sheep shearling trim”. On many hooded styles the sheepskin trim detaches.

Does Moncler use real down?

Yes, Moncler fills most of its padded jackets with real goose down certified under its DIST Protocol. The protocol bans live-plucking and force-feeding and uses third-party audits. Some Moncler pieces use polyester padding instead, as stated on the product page.
