Key Facts

  • Coveti’s winter 2026/27 Moncler edit includes 14 women’s capes across nine designs.
  • 12 of the 14 are one size; the Mantreau loden cape (XXS to L) and the LoveFrom, MONCLER Poncho (S and M) are sized.
  • Only one cape, the Asymmetrical Down Cape, is filled with down; the quilted styles use polyester padding.
  • Two capes carry Moncler’s Maximum Warmth rating: the Wool Blend Tweed Cape and the Mantreau.
  • Lined hooded capes were among Moncler’s first products after its founding in 1952 near Grenoble.

What types of Moncler cape are there?

Moncler’s women’s capes fall into four groups this season: quilted padded capes, a down cape, wool capes and Grenoble capes with a shearling collar. The table compares them using Moncler’s own product data.

Which Moncler cape is the warmest?

The warmest Moncler capes are the Wool Blend Tweed Cape and the Grenoble Mantreau, the only two rated Maximum Warmth. Every other cape in the range is rated Light to Medium, so think of those as a layer for autumn, spring and mild winter days.

The Wool Blend Tweed Cape in Black is made in Italy from a wool blend tweed with a thread of metallised fibre, padded and lined in nylon laque, and closes with snap buttons. The Mantreau Shearling-Trimmed Loden Cape in Brown is closer to a coat: 108 cm of virgin wool loden with a detachable long-haired shearling collar and sleeves, stretch corduroy accents, a quilted lining and an inside media pocket with a YKK AquaGuard NATULON water-repellent zip. Unlike the one-size capes, it comes in a size run from XXS to L.

Is there a Moncler down cape?

Yes, one. The Asymmetrical Down Cape in White Ivory is made in Italy from polyester with 90/10 down padding and a button and snap closure. It is rated Light Warmth, which makes it a good cover over a jacket and a dress for evenings.

Which Moncler capes have a hood?

Five of the nine Moncler cape designs have a hood: the Reversible Hooded Cape, the Diamond-Quilted Hooded Cape, the Hooded Square-Quilted Padded Cape, the wool blend cape (also sold as an unpadded nylon Hooded Cape in Olive Green) and the LoveFrom, MONCLER Poncho. A hood turns a cape from a styling piece into proper rain and wind cover.

The Diamond-Quilted Hooded Cape in Beige has an adjustable hood lined in teddy fleece, a zip and snap front and side pockets. The Hooded Square-Quilted Padded Cape in Brown is the most practical of the group, with sleeves that close with snap buttons so your arms stay covered. For a coat-like line, the Padded Wool Blend Cape in Dark Blue adds a detachable, adjustable hood and a detachable belt with button fastening.

Do Moncler capes use real shearling?

Yes, the two Grenoble capes use real goat shearling, and Moncler names it in each composition. Moncler stopped using animal fur after its Fall/Winter 2023 collection, the last to include it; shearling is leather with the hair left on, and it is listed on every product that uses it.

The Shearling Collar Mohair, Alpaca and Wool Blend Cape in White Ivory is made in Albania from 28% mohair, 28% alpaca, 24% virgin wool and 20% polyamide, with a detachable long-haired shearling collar and snap buttons at the front and sides. It also comes in Black and in Brown and White. For the full background, read Does Moncler use real fur? and our view on whether a shearling coat is worth it.

How does a one-size Moncler cape fit?

A one-size Moncler cape fits most women because it hangs from the shoulders instead of following the bust, waist and hip. Moncler gives no advice to change size on its capes, and its product photos show one-size capes on models from 175 cm to 188 cm tall.

Check two things before you buy. First, the arm openings: wear the cape over a jacket only if the jacket sleeves pass through easily. Second, your height: a one-size cape will fall lower on a petite frame than it does on the model. The sized exceptions follow Moncler’s numeric chart, where size 0 is an XS (IT 40), 1 is a Small (IT 42) and 2 is a Medium (IT 44); our Moncler size guide for women has every measurement.

The LoveFrom, MONCLER Poncho

The LoveFrom, MONCLER Poncho in Light Beige is unpadded, garment-dyed nylon cut from a single piece of fabric, with a hood, a half zip and a magnetic fastening system compatible with the Moncore garment. It packs into its own front pocket. Moncler notes that the magnetic system is not suitable for anyone with a pacemaker. It is sold in S and M and is 105 cm long.

How do you wear a Moncler cape?

Wear a Moncler cape over a fine knit and slim trousers, with a crossbody bag worn under it so the strap does not drag the shoulders. Four rules help.

  • Keep what is underneath slim: a roll neck, a fitted jacket and a straight skirt.
  • Choose ankle boots and knee boots with a clean line; see our women’s boots.
  • Belt the wool cape at the waist when you want it to read as a coat.
  • Over a Moncler gilet from our vests guide, a padded cape becomes a real winter layer.

Why does Moncler make capes?

Capes go back to Moncler’s beginnings. The company was founded in 1952 in Monestier-de-Clermont, near Grenoble, by Rene Ramillon and Andre Vincent (see Wikipedia), and its early products included quilted sleeping bags, tents and lined hooded capes, according to the Moncler Group’s own history. Our Moncler history covers the rest of the story, and the Moncler jackets for women guide shows where capes sit next to the short jackets, long coats and gilets.

Today’s capes are made in Moldova, Italy, Albania and Romania, and the one down cape uses down certified under Moncler’s DIST Protocol.

Frequently asked questions

Are Moncler capes one size?

Most Moncler capes are sold in one size, because a cape hangs from the shoulders and does not need a fitted body. In this season’s women’s range, 12 of 14 Moncler capes are one size. The Grenoble Mantreau (XXS to L) and the LoveFrom, MONCLER Poncho (S and M) are the exceptions.

Is a Moncler cape warm enough for winter?

Two Moncler capes, the Wool Blend Tweed Cape and the Grenoble Mantreau, carry Moncler’s Maximum Warmth rating and suit a cold winter. The quilted Moncler capes are rated Light Warmth and work best over a jacket, a gilet and a thick knit in deep cold.

Is a Moncler cape filled with down?

Only one Moncler cape this season, the Asymmetrical Down Cape, is filled with down, with 90/10 down padding. The other quilted Moncler capes use polyester padding, and the wool and Grenoble capes rely on wool, mohair and alpaca.

Can you wear a Moncler cape over a coat?

You can wear a one-size Moncler cape over a slim jacket and a gilet, but not over a bulky coat, because the arm openings and the shoulders will pull. For the coldest days, the Moncler Mantreau, with its detachable sleeves, is the better choice.

Who should buy a Moncler cape?

A Moncler cape suits women who want a dressy cover for knitwear and tailoring and who walk short distances in the city. If you commute on foot in hard frost, a long Moncler down coat will keep you warmer.
