Polène Cyme vs Cyme Mini vs Cyme Tote: Sizes, Leathers and Which to Buy

The Cyme is the Polène bag people search for most after the brand name itself. It is a sculpted tote made of folds and curves that you can wear two ways: open, like a basket, with the straps on the outside, and closed, with the sides tucked in and the straps crossing inside, so it turns into a rounder, flower-like shape. The name comes from the French word “cime”, a mountain crest, after the ridge that runs down the middle. There are now four sizes, and the differences between them are bigger than the names suggest. Coveti carries 94 of them on 13 October 2026, from $810 to $1,301, including this season’s textured leather in candied chestnut, deep blue, plum and glade.

  • Cyme Tote: 47 x 37 x 11 cm, 726 g, handles of 13 and 29.6 cm, a wider and flatter shopper.
  • Cyme Tote Nano: 25.5 x 20 x 9 cm, 296 g, a short handle plus a shoulder strap.

Cyme against Cyme Mini: the real difference

On paper the Cyme is 32 cm high and 38 cm wide, and the Mini is 22 by 33 cm. In the hand the gap feels bigger, because the full Cyme is 17 cm deep against 13 cm and weighs 900 g against 625 g. The full size takes a tablet, a water bottle, a scarf and a pouch with room to spare, and it is the one to buy if it will be your only bag. The Mini holds a phone, a wallet, keys, sunglasses and a small make-up bag, and looks neater on a smaller frame. Both share the two handle lengths, so the carry is the same: in the hand, in the crook of the elbow and on the shoulder. Neither has a crossbody strap.

The Cyme Tote and the Cyme Tote Nano

The Tote is a different bag, not a bigger Cyme. At 47 cm wide and only 11 cm deep it is a flat, roomy shopper that sits close to the body, with shorter handles of 13 and 29.6 cm. It is lighter than the Cyme at 726 g, which matters if you fill it. The Tote Nano, at 25.5 x 20 x 9 cm, is the smallest of the family and the only one with a shoulder strap, so it can be worn hands-free.

Two ways to wear it

Open, the Cyme reads as a basket: the sides fall outwards and the straps sit on the outside, which is the shape most people picture. Closed, you tuck the sides in and let the straps cross on the inside, and the bag becomes rounder and more structured. The closed shape looks smarter with tailoring; the open one is better for weekends and travel because you can reach in without unfastening anything. The magnetic closure works in both.

Leathers and colours

The core Cyme is cut from textured calf leather, which has a visible grain and hides scratches well, so it is the practical choice for an everyday tote. Coveti also carries earlier editions in other materials, including merino wool, canvas and raffia, which change the character of the bag. The new textured colours this season are deep and autumnal: candied chestnut (a dark olive brown), plum, deep blue that reads almost navy, and glade, a soft greige. Colours at Coveti right now include Textured Black, Textured Black with Ecru Stitching, Textured Candied Chestnut, Textured Cognac, Textured Deep Blue, Textured Glade, Textured Plum, Beige, Black, Brown, Cognac, Ebony.

Is the Cyme worth it?

For a tote you will use every day, yes. The leather is from certified European tanneries, the bag is light for its size and the two-way shape means it does more than a standard shopper. The main caveats: it has no zip, so it is not the bag for a crowded commute, and the full Cyme is heavy once loaded. If you want security, look at the Numéro Neuf East West with its zip closure instead.

How to style it

The Cyme suits clean, simple clothes, because the shape does the work. Wear the full size open with jeans, a knit and loafers at the weekend, and closed with a long coat and trousers in the week. The Mini looks good carried in the hand with a dress. Tone it to the outfit: plum with grey and navy, candied chestnut with cream and camel, glade with black.
