About Huishan Zhang
Huishan Zhang is a London luxury womenswear house, founded in 2012 by the designer of the same name. Zhang was born in Qingdao and left China at seventeen, living in New Zealand and Paris before settling in London. He read BA Fashion at Central Saint Martins and stayed on for an MA in Pattern Cutting. Delphine Arnault selected him personally for a placement at Dior in Paris, where he worked across leather goods and inside the Haute Couture atelier. Browns bought his first collection when he showed it in 2012.
The V&A acquired his couture dragon dress in May 2012 for its permanent collection, making Zhang the first Chinese contemporary fashion designer the museum had collected. The awards followed. Elle China named him International Chinese Designer of the Year in 2014, the same year the Business of Fashion first put him in its BoF 500, where he appeared again in 2015. He made the LVMH Prize shortlist in 2015. The BFC Fashion Trust backed him in 2016, and the Vogue Fashion Fund nominated him in 2017.
