Alexandra Hakim is a British-Lebanese jewellery designer who found the idea for her label as a student, casting the spent matchsticks from an ashtray into earrings. She took an Art Foundation at Central Saint Martins in London and a BFA in Jewellery and Metalsmithing at the Rhode Island School of Design, then launched the brand in Beirut in 2016, working alongside the city’s goldsmiths and craftsmen. The method has not changed since. A found object, a tomato stem from the market say, is cast directly into recycled brass and finished in 22K gold plate, so each piece is unique and the process leaves no waste.
