It began in 1997 as Line 6, named after its number on the house label, and was later renamed MM6. The line takes the ideas of the main collection, linings worn on the outside, trompe l’oeil and the blank label, and puts them into easier, everyday clothes. Where Maison Margiela marks its pieces with four white stitches, MM6 uses a single line of white stitches at the back. Its signature accessory is the Japanese bag, an origami-inspired triangle first shown for Autumn Winter 2009, and its Anatomic shoes sit on a rounded toe and a cylindrical heel. Like Maison Margiela, MM6 belongs to the Italian group OTB, and most of the ready-to-wear is made in Italy.
