Silk Kaftans 2026: 14 Taller Marmo Pieces by Fabric
A silk kaftan is a loose, long-line dress cut from silk fabric: crepe chiffon, fil coupe, satin and lame are the usual weaves. At Taller Marmo, the Milan and Dubai eveningwear label, silk kaftans are made in Italy, and the newest is the Penelope Kaftan in Juniper silk fil coupe, now at Coveti.
Not every kaftan that looks like silk is silk. Some of the most famous Taller Marmo designs are cut in viscose-blend crepe cady, some are silk blends, and a handful are pure silk. This guide sorts them by the composition each product page lists.
What makes a kaftan a silk kaftan?
The fabric has to contain silk, and the composition label tells you how much.
A kaftan is a shape: wide, long and loose, usually with a high neck and generous sleeves. Silk is a fibre, and it is woven in very different ways. Each weave changes how the kaftan hangs, how sheer it is and how much it shines.
Taller Marmo was founded in 2013 by Riccardo Audisio and Yago Goicoechea, who met as students at the Istituto Marangoni in Milan. They began in Dubai making fluid kaftans inspired by 1960s and 1970s jet-set style, and the label now works between Milan and Dubai. For more on the house, read who is Taller Marmo.
Which silk fabrics are used for kaftans?
Four silk weaves do most of the work: crepe chiffon, fil coupe, satin and lame.
Silk crepe chiffon
Sheer, light and slightly matte, with a fine crinkled surface. It floats rather than clings, which is why Taller Marmo layers it over a slip. The Parthenon Kaftan is pure silk crepe chiffon over a detachable halter-neck slip in stretch crepe cady, with crystal-embellished collar and cuffs and matching crystal buttons at the neck. The Feathered Sza Sza Spirito Kaftan takes ivory silk crepe chiffon into a halter shape and outlines it with nearly ten metres of ostrich-feather boa.
Silk fil coupe
A jacquard in which extra threads are woven in to form a motif, then the loose floats between motifs are cut away. The result is sheer ground with a raised pattern on top. Taller Marmo has its fil coupe woven in Como, and most of it is a silk blend with polyester and metallic fibre. Check the percentage: it runs from 28% silk to 75% silk across the pieces in this guide.
Silk satin
Smooth, liquid and lustrous on the face. A satin kaftan drapes close to the body and reads more polished than chiffon. The New Age Kaftan in Sottobosco is pure silk satin with a scarf-style high neckline, and the Sza Sza Kaftan in Black is a pure silk satin halter kaftan finished with a choker-style necklace hung with soft tassels.
Silk lame
Silk woven with metallic threads for a soft gold shine. The Taylor Seventies Kaftan in Gold is silk lame with a thigh-high side slit, a cold-shoulder neckline with an attached scarf and a self-fabric belt at the waist.
Crepe de chine, the flat silk crepe often used for blouses, makes a good day kaftan too, though none of the Taller Marmo pieces here list it.
Which Taller Marmo kaftans contain silk?
The fourteen Taller Marmo kaftans below all list silk in the composition, led by the new Penelope Kaftan.
The Penelope Kaftan in Juniper arrived on 28 October 2026 from the Fall 2026 collection. It is a sheer high-neck kaftan in silk chiffon fil coupe woven in Como with an Art Nouveau motif of botanical and abstract forms. Generous ostrich-feather cuffs give it movement, and it floats over a detached tonal slip dress. The composition is 63% silk and 37% polyester. Unlike many kaftans it is sized, IT 36 to 48, and fits true to size.

The Kintsugi Kaftan in Black Gold takes its idea from the Japanese art of mending ceramics with gold: an opaque gold lurex motif on black silk fil coupe, a detached slip for coverage and a belt that softly marks the waist. The Sza Sza Fantasma Kaftan in Black is ultralight and sheer, held in place with choker-like ties over a stretch crepe cady slip.
The Sphinx Kaftan in Antique Gold and the Sphinx Kaftan in Midnight Blue share a shape but not a recipe: the gold carries 44% silk, the midnight blue 28%. The Denver Kaftan in Midnight Blue is the short option, an asymmetric cut with long flowing side panels and a soft metallic shimmer.
For colour, the Clarke Kaftan has a psychedelic 1960s-inspired pattern in multicolour three-dimensional fil coupe, woven in Como. The Casta Diva Opulence Kaftan in Marigold has the highest silk share of the fil coupe pieces at 75%, with almost ten metres of tonal ostrich feathers at the hem and sleeves.
Silk kaftan vs viscose kaftan: which should you buy?
Buy silk for lightness and sheen; buy viscose-blend crepe cady for opacity, swing and fringe.
Some of the best-known Taller Marmo kaftans contain no silk at all, and that is by design. The Mrs Ross Kaftan in Midnight Blue, a house classic since 2019, is cut in crepe cady and framed by more than seven metres of fluid fringe. Crepe cady has weight, so the fringe swings properly and the fabric stays opaque without a slip. The full story is in our Mrs Ross Kaftan guide.
The Mila Satin Kaftan in Midnight Blue is double viscose satin with sixty working buttons along the neckline. It gives you the liquid finish of satin with a little more body than silk satin.
Silk pieces from the house tend to be sheer and layered: a silk outer over a slip you can take out. That makes them lighter in heat and more adaptable, since the slip changes how much shows. Viscose-blend pieces tend to be single-layer and opaque. Neither is the better kaftan. They suit different evenings.
How do you wear a silk kaftan from day to evening?
Change the layer underneath and the accessories, and keep the kaftan.
- Day and resort. The Ses Illetes Kaftan is relaxed silk fil coupe with a subtle geometric motif, a polo neckline and long sleeves, layered over a detachable linen slip. Flat sandals and a straw bag are all it needs.
- Dinner. A satin kaftan like the New Age with a single statement earring and a hard clutch. Hair up shows off a high neck.
- Black tie and weddings. Feathered silk such as the Penelope and the Casta Diva Opulence. Keep jewellery minimal, because the feathers already frame the face and wrists. The ivory Feathered Sza Sza Spirito is better kept for a bride’s own celebration.
Belt a loose kaftan if you want a waist; several pieces, including the Kintsugi and the Taylor Seventies, come with their own. More ideas sit in how to style the luxury kaftan for evening and how to wear a kaftan to a wedding.
Brides who love the silk-over-slip idea should see the new Marvelous Gown in Latte: a sheer 100% silk crepe chiffon overlay over a cady slip, a high neck with fine buttons at the back and every edge trimmed in ostrich feather. It is a gown, not a kaftan, but it uses the same layering logic.
Silk kaftans around the world
One silk kaftan can be dressed up for a wedding and down for a terrace, which is why it travels so well.
- UK. Summer weddings, garden parties and the occasional black tie dinner. A feathered silk kaftan in juniper reads as formal, and a slip underneath keeps an English evening chill at bay.
- US. Gala season and resort winters in Florida and California. Metallic fil coupe like the Sphinx photographs well under event lighting.
- Italy and France. Riviera summer evenings from Capri to Saint-Tropez. Light silk crepe chiffon and short cuts such as the Denver suit warm nights by the sea.
- Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. Weddings and Eid call for high necks, long sleeves and full length, and many silk kaftans here come with a slip that adds coverage under sheer fabric. See our Taller Marmo Eid kaftans edit and Ramadan modest fashion.
- India. Wedding celebrations that run over several days reward a kaftan that can change mood with jewellery. Colour-rich fil coupe like the Clarke and the Casta Diva Opulence fits the occasion.
- Australia. Christmas and New Year fall in summer, so a silk kaftan over a linen slip is a practical festive choice.

What size silk kaftan should you buy?
Many Taller Marmo kaftans are one size; sized pieces fit true to size.
The brand says its one-size kaftans comfortably fit between an Italian 36 and an Italian 48. Sized pieces such as the Penelope run IT 36 to 48, which Coveti lists as UK 4 to UK 16 (IT 38 is a UK 6 and roughly a US 2). Models on the brand site are 173 to 180 cm and wear an Italian 38, which helps you judge length. For the full conversion, see the Taller Marmo size guide.
How do you care for a silk kaftan?
Taller Marmo pieces are professional dry clean only.
That matters more for silk blends with metallic fibre and feather trims, which should never go near a washing machine. Between wears, hang satin on a padded hanger and fold sheer chiffon and fil coupe in acid-free tissue. Keep feathered pieces in a breathable garment bag with room around the trim, away from direct sunlight. Put perfume on before you dress, not on the silk.
Other silk kaftans to consider
Two pieces from other labels make useful comparisons. The Oscar de la Renta Cape Mixed Beaded Embroidered Caftan is a georgette caftan in 94% silk and 6% elastane, its ground covered in a layered botanical motif, from Resort 2027. For daytime, the Posse Darya Kaftan in Green is 70% cotton and 30% silk, a softer, more casual blend.

What is silk fil coupe?
