Ski Trip Packing List: The Complete Checklist for a Week on the Slopes
A complete ski trip packing list covers four groups: ski clothing (base layers, mid layers, a ski jacket and ski pants), accessories (gloves, mittens, a beanie, a neck warmer), apres ski and town clothes, and essentials such as passes, sun cream and documents. This checklist uses pieces from Fusalp, the Annecy ski house founded in 1952, all stocked at Coveti on the Fusalp brand page and in women’s skiwear.
What should you pack for a week of skiing?
The trick is to pack layers, not bulk. One good ski jacket and one pair of ski pants will carry you through six days if you rotate the base layers underneath. Here is the full list for a seven-night trip. For how the layers work together, read our guide on how to layer for skiing, and for the outfit itself see what to wear skiing.
Ski clothing checklist
| Item | How many (7 nights) | Fusalp pick |
|---|---|---|
| Ski jacket | 1 | Delphine Ski Jacket in Black |
| Ski pants and ski suits | 1 to 2 | Diana Ski Pants in Black |
| Thermal tops | 3 | Gemini Thermal Layer in Snow |
| Thermal leggings | 2 | Alliance Legging in Black |
| Mid layer | 1 to 2 | Lirvane Mid Layer Jacket in Black |
| Ski socks | 3 to 4 pairs | Not stocked at Coveti |
Ski pants and a one-piece suit both work; the suit keeps snow out at the waist. If you prefer one, our Fusalp ski suit guide compares the Clarisse, Kira, Kivna, Jorket and Montanetta.
Three thermal tops is enough for a week if you air them overnight. Pack them in a mix of collars: a half-zip for cold mornings and a crew neck for milder days.
Ski accessories checklist
| Item | How many | Fusalp pick |
|---|---|---|
| Waterproof ski gloves | 1 pair | Peak Gloves in Black |
| Ski mittens | 1 pair | Glacier Ski Mittens in Snow |
| Wool beanie | 1 | Knit Beanie in Black |
| Neck warmer | 1 | Ruan Neck Warmer in Black |
| Helmet and goggles | 1 each | Not stocked at Coveti; hire in resort and bring your own if you have them |
Two pairs is a sensible rule, because gloves rarely dry fully overnight. The Peak Gloves have a Fusalp-approved membrane and a leather palm, and Fusalp rates their warmth 4 out of 5. Fusalp gloves and mittens run in sizes 6.5 to 10, measured in inches around the palm. More in our Fusalp ski accessories guide and in gloves.
Apres ski and town clothes checklist
| Item | How many | Fusalp pick |
|---|---|---|
| Warm coat for town | 1 | Misha Coat in Navy |
| Knitwear | 2 to 3 | Andromede Sweater in Snow and Black |
| Trousers | 2 | Noela Denim Pants in Zephyr Denim |
| Hat for town | 1 | Arctic Chapka in Black |
| Snow boots | 1 pair | Your own |
| Evening outfit | 1 to 2 | Your own |
The Misha is the piece I’d wear on the plane. It is a long down coat that Fusalp rates 5 out of 5 for warmth, for cold down to -30 degrees Celsius, so it does double duty in resort and saves suitcase space. For the full evening look, see our apres ski outfit guide.
Ski trip essentials checklist
- Passport, travel insurance documents and a card for ski hire
- Lift pass confirmation and ski school booking
- High-factor sun cream and lip balm: the sun is stronger at altitude, and snow reflects it
- Sunglasses for the terrace
- A small backpack for the slope
- Phone charger and a power bank, since batteries drain faster in the cold
- Blister plasters and any personal medication
- Swimwear, if your chalet has a spa
How do you pack a ski jacket in a suitcase?
Lay the jacket flat, zip it up and fold the sleeves across the back. Roll it from the hem to the collar and place it at the bottom of the case. Down jackets compress well, so you can roll them tighter, then let them recover overnight on a hanger. Pack ski pants flat on top. Wear your bulkiest coat and boots on the journey to save space.
What should go in your hand luggage?
Put one full ski layer in your cabin bag: a thermal top, a thermal legging, gloves and a beanie. If your suitcase arrives a day late, you can still ski in hired kit with your own warm layers underneath. Keep medication, documents and chargers with you too.
How warm should your packed pieces be?
Fusalp grades its outerwear on its own 5-point warmth scale. Only level 5 carries a temperature claim, protection against deep cold down to -30 degrees Celsius. Levels 1 to 4 have no published temperature. As a guide:
| Trip | Jacket warmth level | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Spring skiing, sunny resorts | 2 to 3 plus a mid layer | Jorket Ski Suit in Moss Green, Black and Snow (level 3) |
| Most winter weeks | 4 | Delphine Ski Jacket in Black (level 4) |
| January, high-altitude resorts | 5 | Barsy Ski Down Jacket in Mastic (level 5) |
Read Fusalp warmth levels explained for every style, and check the Fusalp size guide before you order: Fusalp 34 to 44 converts to UK 6 to 16.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I pack for a ski trip?
Pack a ski jacket, ski pants, three thermal tops, two thermal leggings, a mid layer, ski socks, waterproof gloves and mittens, a beanie, a neck warmer, a warm coat for town, knitwear, snow boots and essentials such as sun cream, lift pass details and travel documents.
How many base layers do I need for a ski trip?
For a week, three thermal tops and two leggings are enough if you air them between days. Add one more top if you ski hard and sweat a lot.
What kind of clothing is appropriate for skiing?
Wear a close-fitting thermal base layer, a light mid layer and a waterproof ski jacket and ski pants. Add waterproof gloves, a warm hat and a neck warmer. Avoid cotton next to the skin.
How many pairs of ski gloves should I bring?
Bring two: a pair of waterproof gloves for most days and a pair of mittens for the coldest mornings. Gloves rarely dry fully overnight, so a spare pair keeps your hands warm.
Is Fusalp waterproof?
Many Fusalp ski jackets, suits and ski pants use a Fusalp-approved membrane that keeps them waterproof, windproof and breathable. Check each product page for the membrane line.
