How a minaudiere is made
A Leiber minaudiere starts as a cast metal shell. Crystals are then set into it by hand, stone by stone, before the inside is lined, on most current pieces in metallic leather. The clasp is often set with crystal too, so it disappears into the design. The result is heavier than a fabric clutch and far more durable, which is why vintage pieces still turn up in good condition.

Where the name comes from
