Alex Perry Strapless Gown in Sequin Stretch Mesh

Alex Perry is an Australian fashion designer, born in Sydney in 1963, who founded his eponymous eveningwear house in 1992. He is best known for sculptural red-carpet gowns built on precise corsetry, and his designs have dressed Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, and Sandra Bullock. See every house we carry in the Coveti designer index.

This page is about Alex Perry the Sydney fashion designer and his label. It is not about the American journalist and author of the same name, and not about the footballers called Alex Perry.

If you have watched a column gown hold its line under the flashbulbs and wondered who cut it, there is a good chance the answer is Alex Perry. Here is the designer behind the label, what the house is known for, and where to shop it at Coveti.

Who is Alex Perry?

Alex Perry, born Alexandros Pertsinidis, trained at the East Sydney Fashion Design Studio and graduated in 1984. He began his career away from the sewing bench, working as a modelling agent who represented Australian models to international agencies. That decade close to the camera gave him an unusually sharp eye for proportion, presence, and how a garment reads in a photograph. In 1992 he launched his own label from a studio in Kensington, Sydney, cutting gowns, corsets, and sheaths, and in 1994 he moved the atelier to Double Bay as his clientele grew.

Alex Perry at a glance

Alex Perry was born Alexandros Pertsinidis on 14 February 1963 in Matraville, Sydney, to Greek-Australian parents, and he is married to Mary Perry. The label has grown from a single Sydney studio into an international eveningwear house with a ready-to-wear line, a bridal line and an eyewear range.

Alex Perry on television

Outside fashion circles, most Australians know Alex Perry from television. He was a judge on Australia’s Next Top Model, and he is the only judge to have sat on the panel for all ten series of the show. That decade of screen time made his name as familiar as his gowns.

Alex Perry Bride and eyewear

Alex Perry Bride makes made-to-order wedding gowns by appointment, with a Bride Edit of ready-to-wear pieces sold online. The brand lists its Bride Spring Summer 2027 collection as launching in October 2026, after Vogue Australia reported the relaunch of the bridal range on 23 July 2026. Our guide to Alex Perry wedding dresses covers the Bride collection in detail. In Australia, the name also sits on an Alex Perry eyewear range made with Specsavers.

What is Alex Perry known for?

The house signature is glamour engineered through construction. Internal corsetry, precise boning, and a clean elongating line are worked in sequin mesh, fluid jersey, satin crepe, and silk. An Alex Perry gown is built to hold its shape across a long evening, which is exactly why it has become a default for galas, weddings, and milestone celebrations. The tailoring arm brings the same discipline to contour blazers, column skirts, and sculptural leather separates.

Who has worn Alex Perry?

The label is a fixture of the red carpet and awards season. Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, Sandra Bullock, Priyanka Chopra, and Lupita Nyong’o have all worn Alex Perry, alongside a long list of Australian actors and presenters. The common thread is occasion dressing with presence, the kind of gown that is made to be photographed.
