Who Is Savette? The New York Bag Label Made by Hand in Italy

Savette is a New York leather goods label, founded in 2020 by Amy Zurek and made by hand in a family workshop outside Florence. It is best known for the Symmetry Pochette, a flat-topped bag with a sculptural turnlock, and it now sits on Coveti beside the full Savette collection. If you are choosing a first piece, our Savette Bags: A Guide to Every Family and Which One to Buy compares every family, and The Savette Symmetry Pochette: Sizes, Leathers and How to Wear It covers the bag that started it.

Who founded Savette?

Amy Zurek studied fine art and art history before she started Savette, and the background shows. The brand cites Jean Arp, Constantin Brancusi and Agnes Martin as references, and its bags are built from parallel lines, right angles and the occasional perfect curve. Savette is her mother’s maiden name. The idea behind it is the heirloom: a bag good enough to pass from one woman in a family to the next.

Where are Savette bags made?

Every Savette bag is designed in New York and made by hand just outside Florence, in a factory run by a family of third-generation artisans. Edges are painted by hand and the leather comes only from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group. Production runs are small. We cover the workshop in more detail in Where Are Savette Bags Made? Inside the Florence Workshop.

The four families

Symmetry is the core: straight lines, a top handle and the turnlock that has become the brand’s signature. Tondo, named for the Renaissance term for a round painting, is all curves. Florence pays tribute to the city where the bags are made, with a slim metal bar along the top edge. Anello is the newest, closed with a leather loop. Shop them by shape in top-handle bags, shoulder bags and hobo bags.

What Savette costs

Savette is priced as a serious investment rather than an entry luxury bag. On Coveti a Symmetry Pochette in smooth calf is about 2,150 USD, the larger Trapeze and Florence shapes run higher, and the exotic editions in eel, lizard and crocodile sit well above that. Small leather goods and leather jewellery start far lower, which makes them the easiest way into the brand.
