The Alanui Cardigan: Every Style, Fit and Fabric Explained

The Alanui cardigan is a long, oversized, buttonless jacquard cardigan with a shawl collar, a fringed edge and a tie belt, made in Italy and knitted so the motif runs through the cloth. It comes in cashmere, virgin wool and blends, in lengths from cropped to coat, and Coveti carries the Fall Winter 2026 Alanui cardigans alongside the wider designer knitwear edit.

Key facts

  • The Icon fit is oversized, buttonless and belted, with a shawl collar and fringe
  • Motifs are knitted in double jacquard, not printed
  • Made in cashmere, virgin wool and cashmere blends
  • Fits true to size: take your usual letter

What makes it an Alanui cardigan

Four details identify the original. The first is the Icon fit, a roomy wrap shape with dropped shoulders and wide sleeves. The second is the fringe along the front and hem. The third is the belt, usually two-tone, which turns the cardigan into a wrap coat. The fourth is double jacquard, a knitting technique that builds the pattern into both faces of the fabric, so the inside is as finished as the outside. The brand also lists how long each piece takes to make, from three hours of knitting for a cardi-bomber to six and a half hours for a coat.

The main styles

1. Bandana Jacquard Cardigan in Black Multicolour

The classic. Pure cashmere, the Icon fit, a black ground and an ivory bandana pattern. Alanui says it takes four and a half hours to knit and another six to assemble.

2. Icon Jacquard Cardigan in Canvas and Coffee

The Icon Cardigan in canvas and coffee, with the signature Alanui Pattern, in 100% cashmere. Alanui calls it the style that started it all.

3. Icon Jacquard Cardi-Bomber in Charcoal and Russet Red

The cardi-bomber: the same jacquard cut to the hip with a ribbed hem. It is the easiest Alanui to wear with high-waisted trousers.

4. Wild Wild Cardigan in Coffee Multicolour

Wild horses across a coffee ground, in virgin wool. A storytelling piece from the Fall Winter 2026 journey through the American West.

5. Hawaiian Sunset Cardigan in Onda Multicolour

A Hawaiian sunset landscape knitted in a wool, cotton and silk blend. The most painterly cardigan of the season.

6. Finest Cardigan in Coffee

The Alanui Finest version: the Icon shape in plain cashmere and silk, with no pattern. Quiet, and the one to wear every day.

Cashmere, wool and blends

Pure cashmere Alanui cardigans are the softest and lightest for their warmth. Virgin wool versions are a little crisper, hold the jacquard pattern sharply and suit a coat-weight piece. Cashmere and linen blends, such as the Bandana Jacquard Cardigan in Chalk and Coral, are lighter for spring and resort travel. Look at the composition on each product page before choosing; the same pattern can come in more than one yarn.

How does the Alanui cardigan fit?

Alanui sizes its knitwear in letters: XS is a UK 6, S a UK 8, M a UK 10, L a UK 12 and XL a UK 14. The Icon cardigan is oversized by design, so take your usual size. Full conversions are in our Alanui size guide. Petite wearers can size down one letter for a slightly shorter sleeve, but most customers keep their usual size and let the cardigan wrap.

How to wear it

Treat it as outerwear. Belt it over a T-shirt and faded straight jeans, wear it open over a slip dress, and use it in place of a coat on a mild winter day. Our guide to how to style Alanui has twelve outfits.
