Fabiana Filippi Knitwear: How to Choose a Sweater, Cardigan and Cape
Fabiana Filippi Knitwear: How to Choose a Sweater, Cardigan and Cape
A Fabiana Filippi sweater is Italian luxury knitwear from the Umbrian house that began as a knitwear specialist in 1985, and this season it comes in four main yarns: Platinum, cashmere and silk, a sequin yarn, and boucle. Coveti files the full range under designer knitwear and on the Fabiana Filippi brand page, and the house yarn has its own dossier in our guide to Fabiana Filippi Platinum.
Key facts
- Fabiana Filippi began as a knitwear house in 1985 in Giano dell’Umbria, Italy.
- Autumn Winter 2026 knitwear comes in Platinum, cashmere and silk, a sequin yarn, and boucle with micro-sequins.

This guide takes the Autumn Winter 2026 knitwear piece by piece: sweaters, turtlenecks, cardigans, capes, the sequin knits and the vest with an integrated scarf. It explains how to choose by neckline, yarn and fit, then how to wear each shape.
Why knitwear sits at the heart of Fabiana Filippi
Fabiana Filippi was founded in Giano dell’Umbria by the brothers Mario and Giacomo Filippi Coccetta and named for Giacomo’s daughter. The family-run house started in knitwear and later added tailoring, bags, shoes and jewellery, but knit is still where its ideas are clearest. Its own yarn, Platinum, is the backbone of the collection, and the house trim, filo diamante, appears on knits as a fine luminous line, a knot at the neck and a loop on a beanie. Every knit in this guide is made in Italy.
How to choose a Fabiana Filippi sweater by yarn
Platinum: 75% virgin wool, 15% silk, 10% cashmere
The house yarn. Virgin wool gives structure and recovery, silk adds sheen and drape, and cashmere softens the hand. Choose Platinum for a sweater you will wear three days a week, for slim fits that need to hold a line, and for the office.
Cashmere and silk: 70% cashmere, 30% silk
Lighter and softer against the skin. This season’s example is a black turtleneck with floral lace panels on voluminous sleeves. Choose it if softness matters more than structure.
Sequin yarn: wool, silk, cashmere, mohair and sequins
The sequin pieces are knitted from 48% virgin wool, 20% silk, 17% cashmere, 11% mohair and 4% polyester. The sequins are worked into the yarn, so they show as small reflections that move with you rather than a solid shine. Choose them for evening and the holidays, and see our guide to sequin sweaters for more.
Boucle and micro-sequin
Boucle is a looped yarn that gives a plush, textured surface. The house blends it with wool, mohair and alpaca and lights it with micro-sequins on a cape and a cardigan in Rattan.
How to choose by neckline and fit
Crewnecks are the easiest to layer: under a blazer, under a coat, over a shirt collar. The Platinum crewneck comes in two shapes, oversized with dropped shoulders and a regular fit, so check the fit word on the product page. V-necks frame jewellery and open the face, and they sit well under a tailored jacket. Turtlenecks give the most warmth and the cleanest line under a coat; this season they range from a slim rib to a soft draped neck tied with filo diamante.
The house publishes a fit word for every piece: slim, regular, wide, oversized. Slim fits follow the body and work tucked into skirts and high trousers. Regular fits sit straight and suit layering. Oversized pieces have dropped shoulders and are meant to be loose, so take your usual size for the intended volume. For designer turtlenecks and designer cardigans across labels, Coveti has dedicated pages.

How to wear Fabiana Filippi knitwear
Each shape has a natural partner in the collection, and the house cuts its trousers and skirts with knits in mind.
- Turtleneck under tailoring: the ribbed Stone turtleneck with the double-breasted pinstriped flannel jacket and matching trousers. Our pinstripe suits for women guide covers the cut.
- V-neck with a wide leg: the Stone V-neck tucked into wide-leg trousers, with loafers.
- Oversized crewneck with a slim skirt: the orange crewneck over the Platinum and lace pencil skirt, balancing volume on top with a narrow line below.
- Cardigan as a jacket: the Falcon shawl-collar cardigan over a silk top, then under a long coat on cold days.
- Sequin knits for parties: the sequin turtleneck with satin trousers, then the cape over the matching sequin trousers. See our holiday party outfits edit.
- The vest with scarf over a crisp shirt and trousers, with the scarf thrown back over one shoulder.
Caring for the knits
The Platinum labels ask for a cool hand wash and drying flat, and most allow a delicate dry clean. Sequins should not be ironed directly; steam from a distance with a cloth between. Fold every knit, including the capes, to protect the shoulders, and give a sweater a day off between wears so the wool can recover. Mohair and boucle sheds a little at first; a gentle shake before wearing helps.
Fabiana Filippi knitwear around the world
In the US, the heavier turtlenecks and capes suit the Northeast winter, while the lighter cashmere and silk turtleneck and the Platinum V-neck cover most of the year in California and the South. In the UK, a Platinum crewneck under a trench is the practical choice from October through April, and the cardigans take over in a cool spring.
In Europe, the sequin knits are made for the long run of holiday dinners in December, and the capes work on cold, dry Alpine evenings. In the Gulf, winter evenings are mild and interiors cool, so a cape over a long dress, the vest with scarf, and short-sleeved knits are the most useful layers. In East Asia, the cold winters of Seoul and Beijing call for the turtlenecks, while Tokyo’s milder season suits the cardigans worn open over a shirt.
Fabiana Filippi sweater sizing
Fabiana Filippi cuts clothing in Italian sizes 36 to 50, shown at Coveti as UK 4 to 18: subtract 32, so an Italian 40 is a UK 8. Each product page gives the house fit description (slim, regular, wide, pencil) and garment measurements taken on an Italian 40, and the house gives no advice to size up and down, so start from your usual size. Full conversions are in our Fabiana Filippi size guide. The knitted capes use letter sizes, XXS to XXL, and the vest with scarf is one size.
For further browsing, Coveti also carries knitwear from Brunello Cucinelli, Max Mara and Toteme; our Toteme cardigans guide is a useful contrast in a plainer register.
