Fabiana Filippi Platinum: The House Yarn Explained

Fabiana Filippi Platinum Sweater with Ostrich Feathers in Vanilla Yellow | Sweaters | Coveti

Fabiana Filippi Platinum is the house’s own exclusive yarn, a blend of 75% virgin wool, 15% silk and 10% cashmere that the Umbrian label knits into designer sweaters, cardigans, dresses, a pencil skirt and winter accessories, all made in Italy. Every Platinum piece we carry this season sits on the Fabiana Filippi brand page, and the wider collection is mapped in our Fabiana Filippi Autumn Winter 2026 edit.

Key facts

  • Platinum is the exclusive Fabiana Filippi yarn, made of 75% virgin wool, 15% silk and 10% cashmere.
  • In Autumn Winter 2026 Platinum is used for sweaters, cardigans, midi and turtleneck dresses, a lace-hem pencil skirt, gloves, beanies, a maxi scarf and a turtleneck bib.
  • This season Platinum pieces carry crystal embroidery, ostrich feathers, lace hems and stripes of Platinum mohair with micro-sequins.
  • Platinum knit labels ask for a cool hand wash and drying flat, and every Platinum piece is made in Italy.

This dossier covers what goes into the yarn, what each fibre does in the knit, how Platinum compares with pure cashmere, the pieces made from it for Autumn Winter 2026, and how to look after them so they last. If the house itself is new to you, our profile of who Fabiana Filippi is gives the background.

What is Fabiana Filippi Platinum?

Platinum is a yarn, and a house name for it. Fabiana Filippi was founded in 1985 in Giano dell’Umbria by the brothers Mario and Giacomo Filippi Coccetta, and it began as a knitwear house before it grew into full ready to wear, tailoring, bags, shoes and jewellery. Platinum is the blend the house developed for itself, and every Platinum product page gives the same composition: 75% virgin wool, 15% silk, 10% cashmere.

The name points to the finish. Silk gives the yarn a low, cool lustre, and many Platinum pieces carry a line of filo diamante, the house’s fine luminous trim, so the knit reads as soft grey light even in black and charcoal. The yarn is used plain, in rib, and as the base for embellishment: crystals, ostrich feathers, lace and stripes of mohair with micro-sequins all sit on a Platinum ground this season.

What does each fibre contribute to Platinum?

Virgin wool, 75%

Virgin wool is wool spun for the first time, never recycled from earlier cloth. It makes up three quarters of the blend and does the structural work. Wool fibre has a natural crimp that gives a knit spring: it stretches at the elbow and comes back. It holds warmth and keeps a sweater’s shape through a long day. That recovery is why a Platinum crewneck still looks like itself at six in the evening.

Silk, 15%

Silk is a long, smooth filament, and even a small share of it changes a yarn. It adds sheen, so the knit has a soft gleam instead of the dry matt surface of plain wool. It adds drape, so a Platinum midi dress falls from the waist rather than standing away from the body. It also makes the surface feel smoother against the skin and keeps the knit lighter for the warmth it gives.

Cashmere, 10%

Cashmere is the fine undercoat of the cashmere goat. At ten per cent it softens the hand of the whole yarn and adds a little loft and warmth without making the knit fragile.

How is Platinum different from pure cashmere?

Pure cashmere gives the softest hand and a great deal of warmth for its weight, which is why the house still knits it on its own; Coveti carries Fabiana Filippi pieces such as the Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater in Grey in it. The trade off is that fine cashmere fibres are short and soft, so a pure cashmere knit can relax and lose shape with wear, and it can pill where a bag strap rubs.

Platinum is built differently. The wool gives it more spring and a firmer line, so close fits such as the slim sweaters and the pencil skirt keep their shape. The silk gives it a sheen pure cashmere does not have, which suits evening and the office equally. The cashmere keeps it soft. In practice Platinum feels a little cooler and smoother than pure cashmere, looks a little brighter, and holds a tailored line better. Pure cashmere wins for cloud-like softness. The Platinum pieces this season

Sweaters and cardigans

The core is knitwear. There are crewnecks in two shapes: an oversized cut with dropped shoulders and a tulle logo label, in Vitamin Orange and Rattan, and a regular fit with a filo diamante detail in Charcoal. There are V-necks in Stone and Raffia, a ribbed turtleneck in Stone, a turtleneck in Falcon fastened at the neck with a knot of filo diamante, and an elbow-sleeve crewneck in Charcoal. Cardigans come with a crewneck in Charcoal, with a rolling shawl collar in Falcon, and with a belted shawl collar and lace hem in Black.

Dresses and a skirt

Platinum is knitted into a crewneck midi dress, drawn in at the waist with a filo diamante knot, in Falcon and Cacha, and into a loose, fluid turtleneck dress in Charcoal rib with filo diamante running through it. The Platinum and Lace Pencil Skirt in Rattan is close and defined, with fine lace at the hem. All four are covered in our guide to Fabiana Filippi dresses.

Outerwear and accessories

The yarn also turns up in outerwear details. The Quilted Platinum Jacket in Mocha is a slim, cropped quilted piece in Mocha with gold knot buttons, and the Long Ultralight Technical Down Coat in Cacha has a hooded collar knitted in Platinum. Accessories include short gloves, beanies with a filo diamante loop, a maxi scarf with an English rib trim, and a turtleneck bib, which is a detachable knitted collar. Our Fabiana Filippi accessories guide covers them in full.

The variations: crystal, feather, lace and mohair stripe

Four finishes change the plain yarn this season. Crystal Jewel embroidery, in assorted geometric shapes, follows the neckline of a short-sleeved sweater and the collar and placket of a cardigan, both in Black. Ostrich feathers frame the neckline of a short-sleeved sweater in Vanilla Yellow. Lace finishes the hem of a cardigan and of the pencil skirt. In Raffia, stripes of Platinum mohair and micro-sequins run through a mandarin-collar cardigan and a V-neck polo sweater, adding the halo of mohair and small points of light to the smooth base.

12 Fabiana Filippi Platinum pieces to buy

1. Platinum Crewneck Sweater in Charcoal

The plain Platinum crewneck in Charcoal, in a regular fit with a filo diamante detail. Start here to learn the yarn: it shows the sheen and spring of the blend without any embellishment.

2. Platinum Sweater with Crystals in Black

Short sleeves, a slim close fit and crystals in assorted geometric shapes around the neck. It does the work of a necklace, so wear it with bare ears and a plain coat.

3. Platinum Sweater with Ostrich Feathers in Vanilla Yellow

The same slim short-sleeved shape with ostrich feathers framing the neckline. The pale Vanilla Yellow and the soft feathers make it the lightest-looking piece in the Platinum range.

4. Platinum Mohair and Micro-Sequin Striped Cardigan in Raffia

A mandarin-collar cardigan in a regular fit, striped with Platinum mohair and micro-sequins. The mohair adds a halo and the sequins a graphic shimmer against the Raffia ground.

5. Platinum Cardigan with Lace Hem in Black

A shawl-collar cardigan with a waist belt and a lace hem. Belted, it reads as a soft jacket; open, it hangs long and fluid over trousers.

6. Platinum Cardigan with Crystals in Black

7. Platinum Midi Dress in Falcon

The crewneck Platinum midi dress in Falcon, skimming the body and drawn in at the waist by a filo diamante knot. A knitted dress for the office that also holds up at dinner.

How to wear Fabiana Filippi Platinum

The yarn has enough sheen to dress up and enough body to wear hard, so it works across a full week.

  • Knitted suit: the Rattan pencil skirt with the Rattan oversized crewneck, tucked loosely at the front, with knee-high boots.
  • Office uniform: a Charcoal crewneck with pinstripe trousers from the house’s flannel range, plus the turtleneck bib on cold days.
  • Evening: the crystal sweater with wide enver satin trousers, which pick up the silk sheen in the knit.
  • Weekend: the shawl-collar cardigan in Falcon over a turtleneck, belted, as a light jacket under a wrap coat.
  • Cold commute: matching Platinum beanie, gloves and maxi scarf in Falcon, so the accessories read as one set.

How do you care for Platinum knitwear?

The Platinum care labels ask for a cool hand wash and drying flat, and most also allow a delicate dry clean. Embellished pieces need more caution, so follow each label exactly. Practical habits help the yarn last for years:

  • Wash in cool water with a wool detergent, press the water out gently, and never wring.
  • Dry flat on a towel, easing the piece back to its shape while damp.
  • Fold knits; hanging stretches the shoulders. The midi dresses and turtleneck dress should be folded too.
  • Rest a sweater for a day between wears so the wool fibres recover their crimp.
  • Keep sequins, crystals and feathers away from a hot iron; steam from a distance and lay a cloth over embellished areas.

Wearing Platinum around the world

In the US, the yarn suits the long cold season of the Northeast and the Midwest under a heavy coat, and the lighter short-sleeved pieces work year round in heated offices from Chicago to San Francisco. In the UK, the damp chill from October to April is where the wool share earns its keep, and a Platinum crewneck under a trench covers most days.

In Europe, the knit dresses travel well between Milan, Paris and Munich in winter, and the Alpine towns call for the beanie, gloves and maxi scarf. In the Gulf, where winter evenings are mild but interiors are cool, the short-sleeved crystal and feather sweaters and the cardigans layer well over dresses for dinners and events. In East Asia, the cold dry winters of Seoul, Beijing and Tokyo favour the turtlenecks and the turtleneck dress, and silk’s smoothness is welcome against skin dried by indoor heating.

Platinum sizing

Fabiana Filippi cuts clothing in Italian sizes 36 to 50, shown at Coveti as UK 4 to 18: subtract 32, so an Italian 40 is a UK 8. Each product page gives the house fit description (slim, regular, wide, pencil) and garment measurements taken on an Italian 40, and the house gives no advice to size up and down, so start from your usual size. Full conversions are in our Fabiana Filippi size guide. The gloves come in S, M and L, while the beanie, maxi scarf and turtleneck bib are one size.
