Is Nour Hammour Worth It? An Honest Look at the Leather and the Fit

Nour Hammour is worth it if you want one leather jacket, coat and skirt to wear for a decade, because the house uses supple lambskin from Leather Working Group tanneries, cuts it to soften with wear and makes it between Paris and Istanbul. It is less worth it if you change outerwear every season. Below, an honest look at what you pay for, using the leather jackets and coats in the Nour Hammour collection at Coveti.

Key facts

  • Founded in Paris in 2013 by Nour Hammour and Erin Conry Webb
  • Lambskin from Leather Working Group tanneries, much of it unlined
  • Made between Paris and a woman-led workshop in Istanbul
  • Best value: a black lambskin jacket, the Sima coat and a seamed leather midi skirt

What you are paying for

The skins. The core material is lambskin, the finest and lightest of the common leathers. Much of it is left unlined, so a jacket weighs almost nothing and moulds to the body. The shearling is lambskin with the wool left on, which means one skin does the job of a shell, a lining and an insulating layer.

The workshop. Pieces are designed in an atelier in the Marais and made between Paris and a woman-led leather workshop in Istanbul, a city with generations of expertise in leather and shearling.

The design. The house was founded in 2013 by Nour Hammour and Erin Conry Webb, who started out customising leather jackets for friends. The silhouettes are deliberately repeated season after season: the robe coat, the cropped bomber, the seamed lambskin midi skirt. That repetition is the point. These are pieces designed to stay in a wardrobe.

How it ages

Good lambskin softens, creases where you move and develops a patina instead of cracking. A Nour Hammour jacket looks better in its fifth winter than its first. That is the real value argument: the cost spreads over years, and natural variation in each skin means your piece is slightly different from the next.

Best value pieces

1. Bleeker in Black

A minimal black lambskin jacket that works with everything. The most wearable entry point into the house.

2. Sima in Rich Brown

The signature shearling robe coat. If you buy one Nour Hammour coat, this is the one people recognise.

3. Garnier in Noir Classique

A seamed lambskin skirt that replaces three others: office, dinner and weekend.

4. Camden in Noir Classique

A black leather trench in the house cut, for people who want leather without the biker reference.

Who it suits, and who it does not

It suits people who wear leather constantly rather than occasionally, who prefer a soft, slightly slouchy line to a stiff one, and who will look after their pieces. It does not suit anyone who wants a rigid, heavyweight biker jacket, anyone who wants machine-washable outerwear, and anyone who buys a coat for one season only. Lambskin is fine and needs care; read our leather and shearling care guide.

How it compares

Next to the bigger luxury houses, Nour Hammour is a specialist: leather and shearling first, knitwear second. If you like the label but want to compare, see brands like Nour Hammour and our ranking of the best leather jacket brands.
