What Nour Hammour is known for

Leather, treated as a material to live in rather than a statement to make. The house works in a deliberately narrow palette of skins: supple lambskin, often left unlined so a jacket weighs almost nothing, and lambskin shearling with the wool left on so the pelt becomes the outer face and the lining at once. Collections are designed in Paris and produced between the brand’s atelier in the Marais and a leather workshop in Istanbul led by a woman, one of the few of its kind in a city with a century of shearling expertise.

The leather is sourced through tanneries in the Leather Working Group. Every skin carries natural variation in grain and tone, so two pieces in the same colour are never identical. That is a mark of real leather and not a flaw. The label is female founded and female run, and its clothes have been worn by Kaia Gerber, the Hadid sisters and Hailey Bieber.

Understanding the materials

• Lambskin leather. The core shell. Exceptionally light and supple, frequently unlined. It marks and softens with wear, and the patina is the point.
• Lambskin shearling. A single skin with the wool intact. Warm without a separate lining, and heavier in the hand than it looks on the rail.
• Toscana. A long-haired shearling used for collars, cuffs and whole coats. It is the plush, slightly unruly fur framing pieces like the Sima and the Ellery.
• Suede. The underside of the skin brushed to a velvety nap. The softest finish the house offers, and the least forgiving of rain.
• Cashmere and wool. Used through the knitwear, the knit skirts and the tights, usually as a fifty-fifty blend.

Editor’s styling guide

The house cuts a soft shoulder on almost everything, so definition comes from the waist. Belt a robe coat rather than buttoning it, and keep what sits underneath slim so the volume reads as a decision. A cropped jacket wants a high waist below it; a longline coat wants a single colour underneath to keep the line unbroken.

The knitwear is designed to be worn as a set. The Whit knit tights are shown with the Jude and Cobain sweaters in the same shade, and that tonal column is the easiest way into the collection. For evening, a shearling thrown open over a slip dress does more than any tailored coat will.

Size and fit

Caring for leather and shearling

Dust the surface with a dry cloth between wears and hang the piece on a broad shouldered hanger so the shoulder line holds. Keep leather away from prolonged damp, and never iron a pelt, and never steam one. When a piece needs more than a brush, take it to a specialist cleaner rather than a general dry cleaner. Cashmere and wool pieces should be dry cleaned regularly and stored folded.
