What makes a Sima a Sima
Three details define it. The collar is a wide shawl that runs from the neck into the front edges in one piece, so the coat closes like a robe. The cuffs are deep and turned back, which gives the sleeve weight and lets you push it up without losing the line. And the body is cut with real volume through the back, so the coat falls in a straight column when it is open and gathers softly when it is tied. Nour Hammour calls it statement-making, and the proportions are exactly that: this is not a coat that disappears over an outfit.
The versions
1. Sima in Rich Brown
The original, in lambskin shearling with the wool turned inside. Long, heavy in the best sense, and the warmest Sima there is.
2. Sima Midi in Rich Brown
The same collar and cuffs on a shorter body that stops below the knee. Easier with trousers and better for driving.
3. Sima Wool Coat in Chantilly
New this season: the Sima cut in an 80 percent wool, 10 percent cashmere and 10 percent silk blend, in a warm ivory the house calls Chantilly. A self tie belt shapes the waist.
4. Sima Wool Coat in Black
The wool, cashmere and silk Sima in black. The most versatile of the four, equally good over tailoring and over knitwear.
Shearling Sima versus wool Sima
Choose the shearling if you live with real winters. A single skin with the wool left on is both shell and lining, so it is warmer than any woven coat of the same weight and shrugs off wind. Choose the wool, cashmere and silk version if your winters are mild, if you commute by public transport and overheat indoors, and if you want a coat that works from October to April. The wool version is also lighter to carry when it is off.
How the Sima fits
Every Sima is designed for an oversized fit, and the brand's own advice is to size down for a closer fit. Take your usual size if you want the full robe effect and plan to wear chunky knitwear underneath. Take one size down if you are between sizes, are petite, and want the shoulders to sit closer. Nour Hammour sizes in French numbers and letters: FR 34 is a UK 6, FR 36 a UK 8, FR 38 a UK 10 and FR 40 a UK 12, while XS is a UK 6, S a UK 8, M a UK 10 and L a UK 12.
