Messika Rings: The Complete Guide to Move, Joy and My Twin

Of all the pieces in the Messika edit at Coveti, the rings are the ones clients ask about most, and the ones with the widest spread of personality. We carry 116 of them in our fine rings department, from a slim Move Uno Ring in 18K White Gold, Small Model with a single diamond to a 1.7 carat marquise cocktail ring. This guide walks through every family, what each one feels like on the hand, and how Messika sizing works.

So what is a Messika ring, in one line? A Messika ring is an 18 carat gold ring set with G colour, VS clarity diamonds, designed in Paris by Valerie Messika. At Coveti the prices run from $1,680 to $26,970, with a median of $5,580. The best known style is Move, where diamonds slide freely inside a gold cage.

Who makes Messika rings

Valerie Messika founded the house in Paris in 2005, when she was 29. She grew up around stones: her father, Andre Messika, is a diamond merchant, and the family firm Messika Diamonds has traded in diamonds since the 1970s. She is still the founder and Artistic Director, which matters more than it sounds. Messika describes itself as one of the few independent jewellery houses founded by a woman whose collections are still designed by that founder.

That background shows in the rings. The diamond is always the point. Gold is used as a frame, a cage, a track, and rarely as decoration for its own sake. If you want the longer history first, our guide to Messika jewellery covers the house from the beginning, including its move into High Jewellery in 2015.

Move rings: the signature

Move is the motif most people picture when they hear the name. A gold cage holds brilliant-cut diamonds that slide as your hand moves. It is a small detail that turns a ring into something you fidget with at dinner, which is half the charm. There are more Move lines than you might expect, and they wear very differently.

Move Uno

One moving diamond, nothing else. Move Uno is the lightest way into the house and has 15 rings in our edit, priced from $1,850 to $13,200. The small model carries 0.01 carats; step up to the Move Uno Pave Ring in 18K Yellow Gold, Small Model (0.15 carats, around $3,110 at Coveti) and the band itself is paved. These are the rings we suggest for stacking, because they sit low and narrow.

Move Classique

Move Classique has three moving diamonds, which Messika reads as yesterday, today and tomorrow. The Move Classique Ring in 18K Yellow Gold, Large Model holds 0.25 carats and costs around $5,110 at Coveti. It reads as a statement on its own and needs very little next to it.

Move Noa and Move Romane

Both are named after Valerie Messika’s daughters. Move Noa is rounder and softer; the Move Noa Chiseled Ring in 18K Yellow Gold, Small Model has a textured gold surface at around $5,580 at Coveti. Move Romane is more architectural, with a wider band. The Move Romane Half Pave Ring in 18K White Gold, Small Model sets 0.30 carats along half the band, around $7,010 at Coveti, while the full pave large model goes to 1 carat.

Move Link, So Move and Imperial Move

Move Link turns the cage into a chain, each link holding its own moving diamond. It is the most varied ring family here, 11 pieces from $4,470 to $20,590, and includes solitaires such as the Move Link Solitaire Ring in 18K Pink Gold, Small Model at 0.80 carats, around $8,030 at Coveti. So Move is sculptural and assertive, with pave worked into the shape. Imperial Move covers the Move motif in fine pave; our one ring is reversible, 0.83 carats, at $13,280.

Move Joaillerie and Move Titanium

Move Joaillerie is the minimal end of Move, and it includes wedding bands for him and her (more on those below). Move Titanium uses brushed titanium, and the darkest finish uses DLC, Diamond-Like Carbon, a coating used in aeronautics and Formula 1. The Move Titanium Anthracite Ring is the lowest priced ring we stock at around $1,680 at Coveti, and it runs in EU sizes 52 to 70.

Joy solitaires

Joy is Messika’s answer to the solitaire. One diamond sits in a halo of micro-set brilliants, which makes the centre stone look larger than its weight. We carry 15 Joy rings from $3,200 to $7,490, and the range of cuts is the reason to look closely.

The Joy Brilliant-Cut Solitaire Ring in 18K White Gold, Small Model is the classic: 0.45 carats, around $5,150 at Coveti. The same 0.45 carat weight comes as an emerald cut at $4,840 and a pear cut at $4,990, so the choice is really about the shape you love. A heart-cut small model holds 0.30 carats at $3,990. Moving up, the Joy Pear-Cut Solitaire Ring in 18K White Gold, Medium Model carries 0.75 carats at around $7,490 at Coveti.

Can a Joy be an engagement ring? We think it sits happily in that role when the brief is modern and not too formal. It works just as well on the right hand, worn as a piece you bought for yourself.

My Twin: the Messika toi et moi

My Twin sets a pear-cut diamond facing an emerald-cut diamond, never touching. It is Messika’s take on the toi et moi, the two stone ring where each stone stands for one person. The My Twin Toi & Moi Ring in 18K White Gold, Small Model carries 0.45 carats for around $6,330 at Coveti; the medium model goes to 0.60 carats at $9,610. If the two stone idea is new to you, our explainer on what a toi et moi ring is sets out the history.

Fiery, Glam’Azone and Moderniste

Fiery is built on the pear cut, Valerie Messika’s favourite cut. The ring comes in three sizes, which makes it a neat lesson in how carats drive price: the small model has 0.35 carats at $5,740, the Fiery Ring in 18K White Gold, Medium Model has 0.63 carats at around $9,150 at Coveti, and the large model is $13,280.

Glam’Azone wraps openwork 18 carat gold around an oval-cut diamond. The Glam’Azone Multi-Wear Pave Ring in 18K White Gold is a double ring that can be worn together and apart, 1 carat in total, around $13,520 at Coveti.

Moderniste is the most graphic family, inspired by contemporary architecture, with polished gold alternating with pave. The plain medium ring is $4,850 with 0.03 carats; the Moderniste Pave Ring in 18K Pink Gold, Medium Model raises that to 0.35 carats at around $7,800 at Coveti.

Smaller signatures: D-Vibes, Gatsby, Lucky Eye

D-Vibes comes from Valerie Messika’s love of music and reworks the diamond riviere with gold motifs between the stones. The D-Vibes Ring in 18K Pink Gold, Small Model is 0.22 carats and around $2,760 at Coveti, a lovely stacking ring. Gatsby uses lines of micro-set diamonds and supplies several of our wedding bands. Lucky Eye redraws the good luck eye with the Joy XS motif at its centre; the ring is $2,770.

Messika wedding bands

We stock 16 Messika rings sold as wedding bands, and they fall into four groups.

  • Gatsby: the lowest entry point, with the small band at 0.26 carats for $2,630 and the medium at 0.65 carats for $5,150.
  • Fiery: from the pear-cut family, 0.19 carats, $3,200.
  • Joy: 0.40 carats, $4,150, in all three golds.
  • Move Joaillerie: the Move Joaillerie Wedding Band in 18K Yellow Gold, Small Model at around $4,380 at Coveti, and a pave version at 0.49 carats for $7,200.

Move Joaillerie is the one to look at for a couple who want matching pieces, since Messika designed it with bands for him and her. For how to pair any of these with an engagement ring, our guide to diamond wedding bands goes into proportions and profiles. Browse the full edit in diamond wedding bands.

Metals: does gold colour change the price?

Messika works in 18 carat white, yellow and pink gold. Pink gold is Messika’s own name for its rose gold alloy. Across all 147 designs we stock in more than one metal, the price does not change with the gold colour. A Move Link Pave Ring is $6,440 in pink, white and yellow alike. So choose the colour for your skin and your other jewellery, and leave budget out of it. Our piece on white gold vs yellow gold vs rose gold can help.

How Messika ring sizing works

Messika uses EU sizes, which are the inside circumference of the ring in millimetres. A size 52 has a 52 mm circumference. Messika says its rings fit true to standard sizing, so if you know your size in another system, convert it directly. Most of our Messika rings are stocked in EU 47 to 56; some models start at 44, and the titanium ring runs up to 70.

EU (mm circumference) UK US
44 F 3
46 G 1/2 3.5
47 H 1/2 4

A wide band such as Move Romane, Moderniste and the larger Move Link rings covers more of the finger, so it can feel snugger than a thin Move Uno in the same size. If you sit between two sizes, the wider ring is the one to size up. Our ring size chart explains how to measure at home with a strip of paper and a ruler.

How to choose: a short edit

For a first Messika ring, Move Uno is the safest bet, thin enough to wear daily and priced from $1,850. For something to wear alone, Move Classique and Joy do the most with one ring. For a gift with a story, My Twin. For a hand full of rings, mix a Move Uno, a D-Vibes and a Gatsby band; our guide to stackable rings covers proportions, and the stackable rings edit gathers the slim styles in one place.

Every piece we sell is 100% authentic and ships worldwide from London. Messika states that 100% of its pieces go through quality control on ergonomics, aesthetics and integrity. FAQ: Messika rings

How much does a Messika ring cost?

Messika rings at Coveti cost from $1,680 to $26,970, with a median of $5,580. The entry point is the Move Titanium Anthracite Ring, and the gold Move Uno Ring starts at $1,850. Joy solitaires run $3,200 to $7,490, and the most expensive ring is a 1.7 carat marquise from Desert Bloom.

Do Messika rings run true to size?

Yes, Messika says its rings fit true to standard sizing. Sizes are EU circumference in millimetres, so a 52 is 52 mm around the inside. Wide bands like Move Romane can feel tighter than a slim Move Uno of the same size, so size up by one if you sit between two sizes.

What is the most popular Messika ring?

The Move family is the house signature and the largest group of rings we stock, with Move Uno the biggest single line at 15 rings. Move Uno holds one sliding diamond; Move Classique holds three, which Messika reads as yesterday, today and tomorrow. Both come in white, yellow and pink gold.

Can a Messika ring be an engagement ring?

A Joy solitaire makes a modern engagement ring. Joy sets one diamond in a halo of micro-set brilliants, in brilliant, pear, emerald and heart cuts, from 0.30 to 0.75 carats in our edit. My Twin, the Messika toi et moi, is the other natural choice for a proposal.

Does Messika make wedding bands?

Yes. Coveti stocks 16 Messika wedding bands across Gatsby, Fiery, Joy and Move Joaillerie, from $2,630 to $7,200. Move Joaillerie was designed with wedding bands for him and her, so it suits couples who want matching rings. Each band comes in more than one gold colour.

What diamonds does Messika use in its rings?

Messika diamonds are typically G colour and VS clarity, stated as G/VS on many pieces, set in 18 carat white, yellow and pink gold. The house has family roots in the diamond trade going back to the 1970s through Messika Diamonds, the firm of Andre Messika.
