A cape coat is a coat that drapes from the shoulders without fitted sleeves, usually with arm slits, and closes at the front. A cape is the looser, sleeveless version.

Are cape coats warm?

A wool and cashmere cape coat is warm through the body and shoulders, and a shearling cape is warmer still. Wear long gloves and a knit with long sleeves underneath on cold days.

What do you wear under a cape coat?

Slim layers work best: a fine knit, a shirt, tailored trousers and a slim midi dress. Bulky sleeves fight the drape of the cape.
