Patou Review: Quality, Sizing and Whether It Is Worth It

Patou is easy to like and slightly harder to place. It is an LVMH house with a couture past,
selling clothes at prices that sit closer to Sandro than to Dior. Here is what it is actually
like to buy, based on the specification the house publishes and the pieces we stock.

What Patou does well

Tailoring. The jackets are the strongest thing the house makes. Collarless
and double-breasted shapes in RWS virgin wool twill with three percent elastane, viscose
lined, JP-engraved gold-tone buttons, mostly made in Romania. At roughly 990 euros at source
that is a lot of cloth and construction for the money, and the shoulder line is quiet enough
to wear for years.

Fabric honesty. Every product page publishes the full composition,
including linings and trims, and the country of manufacture. That is unusual. You know before
you buy that the Iconic trouser is 97 percent virgin wool and 3 percent elastane, that the
jersey is 100 percent organic cotton from Portugal, and that the raffia bags are made in
Madagascar.

A real permanent range. Les Essentiels carries over season to season, so a logo t-shirt and an Iconic trouser you buy now is still replaceable in two years. Most houses
at this price churn the whole line every season.

What to be realistic about

It is not made in France. The bulk is Portugal, Romania, Poland, Bulgaria,
Turkey, Madagascar and Tunisia, with jewellery from Bali. The house is upfront about it and
calls it near sourcing. Some knitwear, socks and caps are French-made. If the French label is
the point for you, check the country on the piece before you commit.

The volume shapes are not universal. La Patou Blouse and the bloomer skirt
carry real volume. They look best with something narrow on the opposite half, and they
photograph larger than they wear. If you prefer a close line, the house has it, but you have to
look for it.

There is no designer right now.
Guillaume Henry left in February 2026 and the house has not
replaced him, so what is in circulation is the settled version of his seven years. Good for
consistency, less good if you want to know where the house is heading.

Sizing and fit

Patou cuts to French sizing, so FR 34 through FR 44 maps to UK 6 through UK 16 on the
house’s own published conversion. The house publishes no blanket “runs small” and no “size up” instruction, and the pieces are cut true. The exceptions it does flag are specific: the unisex
t-shirts and caps tell men to take one size up, the Iconic denim trousers sit on the hips and
want a size down if you want them high-waisted, and the fitted denim jacket suggests a size up

Where it beats the obvious alternatives

Against Maje and the Paris contemporary set, Patou wins on cloth and on
construction. Against Jacquemus, it is quieter and more wearable but less of a
statement. Against Totême, it is warmer and more decorative where Toteme is

Verdict

A quiet buy rather than a loud one. The tailoring and the knitwear are the reasons to shop
it; the jersey is well made but priced at what you would expect; the bags are good-looking and
sensibly sized rather than investment pieces. If you want a Paris house you will actually wear
on a Tuesday, it is one of the better value propositions in the LVMH stable.
