Patou is the Paris house Jean Patou founded in 1914, reopened by LVMH in 2018 and run from an atelier on the Île de la Cité a few steps from Notre-Dame. It is the maison that took the corset out of the dress in the 1920s, dressed the tennis champion Suzanne Lenglen, put the JP monogram on beachwear before any other couturier used a visible logo, and launched Joy in 1930 as the costliest perfume in the world. Today it makes a compact, wearable collection: the volume blouse, the bloomer skirt, the Iconic trouser, RWS virgin wool tailoring, French-made wool and cashmere knitwear, and leather goods built around that same monogram. What to know before you buy
- Sizing is French. FR 34 is a UK 6 and FR 44 a UK 16 on the house’s own conversion. Patou publishes no blanket sizing correction and the cut is true. Full conversion table.
- The proportion rule. The house cuts one half full and the other narrow, and expects you to pair them. A volume blouse goes over a straight trouser, never over a full skirt. The styling guide.
- Fabric is published per piece. Every product lists its full composition, including linings and trims, and the country it was made in.
- Mostly made in Europe, not in France. Production runs across Portugal, Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Turkey, Italy, Spain and Tunisia, plus Madagascar, with jewellery handmade in Bali. Some knitwear, socks and caps are French-made. The published numbers.
- There is no artistic director at present. Guillaume Henry led the house from the 2018 relaunch until February 2026 and has not been replaced, so everything in circulation is from his tenure. What that means.
The Patou wardrobe
Les Essentiels is the permanent range, kept in production year to year rather than replaced each season: logo t-shirts, tank tops, jersey and the Iconic trouser. La Patou Blouse is the house signature, a high-volume body with a drawstring collar and long grosgrain ties, in organic cotton poplin and recycled faille. The bloomer is the gathered mini the house returns to every season. The tailoring runs in RWS virgin wool twill with JP-engraved gold-tone buttons, and the knitwear in merino and French-made wool and cashmere.
In leather goods, Le Patou Bag and Le Petit Patou cut the monogram into a half-circle body, joined by Le Bowling, the Lock bags and the Bonbonnette. The raffia and wicker buckets carry a gold ornament drawn from the Bocca della Verità, the same motif that anchors the jewellery.
