Polène is best known for bags, but its small leather goods carry the same ideas at a fraction of the size: rounded shapes, folded leather and contrasting trims. Which wallet holds the most?

The Sierra Wallet is the only full long wallet: notes lie flat, there are six card slots, two middle pockets and a zipped compartment for coins, and it closes with a leather-covered magnet. It is 19 cm long, so it suits a tote like the Cyme better than a small bag. The Numéro Sept Wallet is the compact choice, 12 cm square, with a coin pocket and an open note compartment, and it shares the central clasp of the Numéro Sept bag.

Card holders: four very different shapes

The Nodde is the slimmest, at 3 mm, built from interlocking leather modules; it is for cards only. The Neiti is braided into soft waves and has three compartments, one of them big enough for folded notes. The Kayé looks like a small book: three expanding sections, a zipped one in the middle for coins, all tied with a leather strap and a sliding pebble, and Polène says it can be worn on the wrist. The Atla is zipped, with four slots on the back, and every one is a patchwork of offcuts from other collections, so no two are quite the same.

Pouches

The Nodde Pouch is a flat, zipped clutch-sized pouch, almost 25 cm wide, that works as a travel organiser and as a minimal evening clutch. The Sierra Pouch has a wrist strap and a front patch pocket. The Sierra Mini Pouch is the size of a card holder with two zips, one for cards and one for coins and keys.

Which one should you buy?

If you carry a small bag such as the Numéro Dix, choose a card holder: the Nodde if you only carry cards, the Kayé if you still use coins. If you carry a tote, the Sierra Wallet keeps everything in one place. For a gift, the Neiti and the Kayé are the most recognisably Polène. Care

Keep small leather goods away from long exposure to light and heat, water, oils, perfume and cosmetics, and take care with dark denim, as dye can transfer to pale leather. If one gets wet, blot it with a soft cloth and let it dry at room temperature. Polène says no leather cream is needed, and the house offers a repair service at cost.
