The Attico Robe Dress: The Dressing Gown That Started the Label, Ten Years On
The Attico Robe Dress: The Dressing Gown That Started the Label, Ten Years On
The Attico began with a dressing gown. When Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini launched the label in Milan in 2016, its first pieces were robes and slip dresses meant to be worn out of the house, and the robe became its signature. Ten years later, the anniversary capsule Superattico10 brings it back as a jacquard robe mini dress, $2,150 at Coveti. This page tells the story, explains how the new version is made and fits, and shows how to wear a robe as a dress.

Why the robe matters to The Attico
The founders were stylists and digital personalities before they were designers, and the idea that launched them was simple: the beautiful robes and nightwear that women owned should be worn to dinner. The robe dress made The Attico recognisable within a season, and every collection since has carried some trace of it, from silk slip dresses to belted satin jackets. The Attico history has the full story, and The Attico signatures lists the other codes.
What is new about the anniversary version
The Superattico10 robe keeps the shawl collar and the tie belt and changes the rest. The shoulders are built up, which turns a soft gown into something closer to a jacket. The fabric is a floral jacquard in viscose and silk, which has more body than the original satins. Pink piping runs along the collar, cuffs and belt, a playful nod to pyjamas. And the length is a mini, so it reads as a dress first.
How to wear it
Belt it tight and wear it as a dress with black mules, the Betta crystal mule for evening. Leave it open over a black slip and trousers and it becomes a jacket. Over satin cargo pants it gives the house mix of night and utility. Keep jewellery to gold hoops; the piping does the work.
Robe dresses in context
A robe dress is the opposite of a fitted cocktail dress: it wraps, it ties and it adjusts to the body through the day. That is why it works for weddings in winter, long dinners and travel. If you like the idea in a longer length, look at the house jersey maxis with knots at the hip in The Attico knot dresses; they share the wrap logic.
