Bogner vs Moncler: Which Luxury Ski Brand Is Right for You?

Bogner and Moncler are the two names most people think of for luxury skiwear. Bogner is the Munich house founded in 1932, known for slim stretch ski trousers and Olympic outfitting. Moncler, founded in 1952 near Grenoble, is known for its shiny quilted down. Here is how they compare. Shop the Bogner edit and all luxury ski jackets at Coveti.

History

Bogner started as a Munich ski shop in 1932 and dressed the German team at the 1936 Winter Olympics. Maria Bogner introduced the stretch ski trouser in 1948. Moncler began in 1952 in Monestier-de-Clermont, a village near Grenoble, making quilted sleeping bags and work jackets before it dressed mountaineering expeditions and, later, the French ski team. Both have real alpine credentials. Bogner’s is in ski fashion, Moncler’s in down.

Style

Bogner looks tailored. Its ski jackets have fitted waists, cord and fur-look trims and colour blocking, and the trousers are slim. Moncler is built around the quilted down jacket, often in a glossy lacquered finish, with a bigger, puffier shape. If you like a sleek line, choose Bogner. If you want the classic puffer, choose Moncler.

Technical performance

Both make real ski kit. Bogner Sport uses four-way stretch shells, membranes and seam sealing on many styles, and pairs them with softshell stirrup trousers that move well. Moncler’s ski line, Moncler Grenoble, is similarly technical. For pure warmth, both use real down. For freedom of movement, Bogner’s stretch trousers have the edge.

Range

Bogner covers the whole ski outfit, from base layers and mid layers to ski pants, jackets, overalls and apres ski knits, plus a city line of coats and cashmere. That makes it easy to build a full look from one house, as we show in our Autumn Winter 2026 edit.

Value

A Bogner Sport down ski jacket and a Moncler Grenoble jacket sit at a similar luxury price. Bogner’s Fire+Ice line gives a lower-priced way in that Moncler does not really offer. See Bogner Fire+Ice explained.
