Dries Van Noten is one of the most collected houses on the resale market, for a simple reason: the pieces are made from cloth that lasts and printed with things that do not date. “Archive Dries” is a search term, an Instagram category and, once in a while, a sale of the house’s own stock in Antwerp, announced on its own channels. What holds its value

Three families. The printed silks, because a Flemish still life on satin is the house in one piece and the silk survives if it was dry cleaned. The embroidered outerwear, because the bullion work is hand-done and each season’s is different; the Embroidered ankle-length wool coat in Black is the current example and its predecessors are the archive pieces collectors chase. And the jacquard tailoring, because woven pattern does not wear off; the Jacquard duffle coat in Sand is this season’s. Knitwear and jersey hold their value least, and the shoes hold it only when unworn.

Dating a piece

Read the Ref on the interior label. The first block is the season: the first two digits are the year and the third is 1 for spring summer and 2 for autumn winter, so 252 is Autumn Winter 2025 and 231 is Spring Summer 2023. The house product page for a current piece confirms the format; the Wrap scarf-skirt, for example, is a 262. Older pieces carry the same structure back through the 2010s.

What to check

The label and the Ref first. Then the composition against what the house would have used: silk where silk is claimed, wool where wool is claimed. Then the seams and the embroidery: the house’s stitching is even and the bullion is metal thread with weight. Then the seller: platforms that authenticate, and a returns policy. Older seasons still new at Coveti
