Dries Van Noten sizes its women’s clothing on French sizing, FR 34 to 44, and Coveti shows it on the UK ladder: FR 34 is UK 6, FR 36 is UK 8, FR 38 is UK 10, FR 40 is UK 12, FR 42 is UK 14 and FR 44 is UK 16. What the fit words mean

The house uses a fixed vocabulary and it is worth learning. Tight fit is close to the body throughout: the Jacquard wool sweater in Light Red, the fitted contrast tees, the cropped blazers. Fitted is shaped but not tight: the Long draped satin dress and the Embroidered crepe blazer in Navy. Regular fit is the house’s true-to-size cut: the Tailored wool pants in Black, the Double breasted moiré blazer in Black, most shirts. Loose fit is roomy through the body: the Jacquard duffle coat in Sand, the Wide pleated jeans in Indigo, the drawstring trousers. Oversized is deliberately large: the Silk shirt dress, the Oversized floral coat in Neon Orange, the cocoon shirts. Take your usual size in all of them; the extra room in loose and oversized is the design, and sizing down flattens it.

Lengths

Every dress and skirt page states the length: mini, knee length, calf length, midi, ankle length, floor length. On the 178 cm house model an ankle-length dress clears the floor by a hand; on a 165 cm frame it will touch it. The Long lurex shirt dress in Blue is floor length, the Printed slip dress in Red knee length, the Long jacquard skirt in Rust floor length.

Trousers and jeans

The trousers run on the same FR ladder. The elasticated and drawstring styles, the Wide leg jacquard pants in Ocra, have the most give and are the safest online buy. The tailored styles are regular fit with a mid to high rise. The denim, the Wide pleated jeans in Indigo, are cut wide and pleated and sized on the FR ladder too, not on inches.

Letter sizes

Knitwear, jersey tops, sweatpants and the hoodie use XS to XL. The knits are fine gauge and regular fit; the Merino sweater in Black and the Cropped cashmere cardigan in Dark Brown run true. The Draped cotton hoodie in Forest is an oversized cocoon and is meant to be.

“Wash short and cold. Select a gentle washing program at 30 degrees. Air dry your garments when possible,” the house advises on its Care Guide. “To preserve the colours of our printed garments, wash them gently.”
