Editor’s guide: wearing Dries Van Noten
The house dresses itself by one rule: one decorated piece, plain everything else, and the second colour of the outfit taken from the print. Here is that rule in four looks from the current stock.
1. The print and the plain shoe
The Silk shirt dress, an oversized silk cocoon in the Flemish Painting print, with the Leather loafers in Tan and nothing at the neck. The Printed slip dress in Red in the Marbled Clay print is the same idea at a lower price.
2. The jacquard coat over black
The Jacquard duffle coat in Sand, a hooded duffle in Floral Tapestry jacquard, over the Tailored wool pants in Black and a black merino knit. The Embroidered ankle-length wool coat in Black, ankle-length wool with bullion bands, is the evening version and the collector’s piece.
3. The wide trouser and the knit
The Wide leg jacquard pants in Ocra, wide and elasticated in floral double-dye jacquard, with the Cropped cashmere cardigan in Dark Brown in pure cashmere; on a plainer day the Wide pleated jeans in Indigo with the Jacquard wool sweater in Light Red, the fair-isle style knit that is the lowest-priced way into the jacquard story.
4. One accessory as the ornament
The Embroidered East-West bag in Sky, gobelin with gold sequin clusters, over a plain coat; the Long pendant necklace in Old Brass over a crew neck; the Silk square scarf in Blue knotted inside a collar; the Suede sneakers in Black, the suede creased-toe trainer, under all of it.

The house sizes its clothing FR 34 to 44 and names the fit on every page, from tight to oversized; take your usual size, because the loose and oversized pieces are roomy by design. The house model is 178 cm and wears FR 36, which is UK 8, on most product pages. Knitwear and jersey use XS to XL. Shoes are EU 35 to 42 in whole sizes and run true.
