Fringe Dress Guide 2026: 14 Designer Fringe Dresses

A fringe dress is any dress trimmed with loose hanging strands that swing as you move, from silk and viscose to beads, leather and metal chain. For evening, Taller Marmo is the label to know: its Mrs Ross Kaftan carries more than seven metres of fringe. Coveti stocks it alongside fringed gowns from Oscar de la Renta and Jenny Packham.

Fringe has been on evening dresses for a century because it moves in a way no other trim does. Walking across a room becomes a small performance. This guide covers the fringe types worth knowing, which length suits which occasion, how black and white fringe behave differently, and how to keep a fringed piece looking new. I have led with Taller Marmo because fringe is close to the heart of the house, and then widened the edit to other designers we carry.

What is a fringe dress, exactly?

A fringe dress is a dress where fringe is the defining detail, not a passing trim. The strands can run the full length of the body, edge a hem, finish a sleeve, frame a neckline, and sometimes trail behind as a train.

What separates a good fringe dress from a costume is the base underneath. Fringe needs a cut that holds its line so the strands have something calm to move against. That is why the best examples sit on simple shapes: a column, a kaftan, a fitted mini. Taller Marmo builds most of its fringe on viscose-blend crepe cady, a matt, weighty cloth that drapes cleanly and lets the fringe do the talking.

Fringe also arrived on evening dresses with the 1920s flapper. Low waists and short, swinging hems were made for dancing, and the look has been borrowed ever since. Our guide to 1920s evening dresses traces that line in more detail.

Which fringe dress is Taller Marmo known for?

The Mrs Ross Kaftan is the house signature, a classic since 2019 and framed by more than seven metres of fluid fringe.

The Mrs Ross Kaftan in Midnight Blue from Fall 2026 shows why it works. The crepe cady falls in a clean, generous ankle-length line, and a high scarf neckline is trimmed with tonal fringe. It is one size, which the brand says sits comfortably between an Italian 36 and an Italian 48. It also comes in emerald green, the version I would pick for a summer wedding abroad. Our full Mrs Ross Kaftan guide covers every colour and how it fits.

The fringe also turns up on the Gloria, a fringed crepe kaftan Tamron Hall wore on her talk show, and across the newest drop. The 1926 Gown in Juniper, new this month, is cut in sheer silk chiffon fil coupe woven in Como with an Art Nouveau motif. It has a cowl neck, a halter tie and an open back, and its long mermaid line ends in a leaf-shaped train trimmed with fluid fringes. It is the most formal fringe piece in the house this season.

For something shorter, the Disco Dragon Dress in Multicolor is a fitted high-neck mini in iridescent three-dimensional sequins over tulle, with long fringes down its oversized kimono sleeves. The plain crepe version, the Dragon Dress in Black, keeps the same sleeve and fringe in stretch crepe cady. Both are cut in sizes UK 4 to 18.

What types of fringe are there, and when do you wear each?

The fibre of the fringe decides how it moves, how much it weighs and where it belongs. Silk and viscose swing softly. Beads and chain hang heavy and catch light. Leather reads casual.

Fringe type How it moves Best occasion Example at Coveti
Silk Fine, fluid, catches the air Black tie, opera, evening weddings Taller Marmo 1926 Gown, fringed train
Viscose crepe Soft, weighty, swings in long arcs Weddings, resort dinners, summer parties Taller Marmo Mrs Ross Kaftan
Beaded Heavy, sways, clicks lightly Galas, receptions, New Year’s Eve Jenny Packham Roxy Dress
Sequin with beaded fringe Structured body, moving sleeve Black tie, award dinners Oscar de la Renta Sequin Fringe Gown
Leather Stiffer, bouncy Daytime, festivals, western themes Best kept to jackets and accessories
Metallic Glints, rustles, reads as party Cocktails, themed nights, dancing See our metallic fringe edit

Metallic fringe is a world of its own, so we gave it a separate guide: metallic fringe dresses covers that look in depth.

Beaded fringe deserves a note. The Jenny Packham Roxy Dress in Bronze pairs a round neckline with beaded fringe and short sleeves, which makes it a natural fit for a wedding reception. The Oscar de la Renta Sequin Fringe Gown in Black takes a different route: a column of double-faced stretch wool and hand-applied sequins, with open sleeves that fall into beaded fringe. Beaded strands carry real weight, so they suit a cut with structure at the shoulder.

Which fringe dress length suits your occasion?

Pick the length by the dress code first, then by how much movement you want around your legs.

Mini fringe dresses

A fringe mini dress is for cocktails and dancing. Short hems let fringe swing freely, and fringe on the sleeves keeps the eye up. The Mini Berenson Dress in Black is a fitted crepe cady mini with a cold-shoulder neckline and an oversized shawl attached at the shoulder, finished with long fringes like a scarf. Browse more in designer mini dresses.

Short kaftans and high-low shapes

The middle ground is the asymmetric short kaftan. The Maar Kaftan in Juniper reworks the house fringed kaftan with an asymmetric cold shoulder and an adjustable scarf, so you can arrange the neckline different ways. The Dallas Kaftan in Antique Gold uses textured metallic organza with a high-low hem and a fringe-trimmed scarf neck. Both are one size.

Maxi fringe dresses and kaftans

Maxi is the most versatile length. It works for weddings, long dinners and anything with a garden. The Berenson Dress in Midnight Blue is a floor-length crepe column with a fringed shawl at one shoulder. For a full fringe body, the Mrs Ross is the obvious choice. More shapes sit in our kaftan edit.

Fringe gowns

A gown with fringe is for black tie. Keep the fringe to one zone, a train, a sleeve, a hem, so the line stays formal. The 1926 Gown and the Oscar de la Renta column both follow that rule. Our evening gowns page has the wider range.

Black fringe dress vs white fringe dress: which is easier to wear?

Black is easier for evening and more forgiving on movement. White is lighter, brighter and best in daylight and warm weather.

A black fringe dress lets the strands blur into one dark shape, so movement reads as texture rather than as a busy pattern. It is the safer choice for black tie and for anyone new to fringe. Taller Marmo has several: the Mrs Ross Kaftan in Black, the Nina Hand-Tied Fringes Dress in Black, a fitted halter column with hand-tied contrast fringe along a V-shaped hem, and the Fringed Magnifique Dress in Black, a V-neck column with maxi sleeves fully trimmed in tonal fringe and a deep tied V-back.

A white fringe dress shows every strand, which is lovely in sunlight and on a beach terrace. Ivory is kinder to most skin tones than stark white. The Mrs Ross Kaftan in Ivory works for a rehearsal dinner, a beach wedding guest look and a bride’s after-party. If you are a guest, check the couple are happy with pale colours first. Our Taller Marmo dresses by colour guide lays out every shade in one place.

How do you wear fringe without looking like a costume?

Let the fringe be the only loud thing you wear, and keep everything around it quiet.

  • One statement only. Skip the feather headband and the long gloves unless the invitation asks for them. Fringe already says 1920s.
  • Simple jewellery. A single cuff, small drop earrings, nothing that tangles in the strands. Long necklaces snag fringe at the neckline.
  • Quiet shoes. A plain sandal in black, gold, nude. Avoid fringed shoes with a fringed dress.
  • A clean bag. A hard clutch is better than a beaded pouch that catches on beaded fringe.
  • Calm hair. A low knot keeps a fringed neckline visible. Loose waves work with a halter.

Themed parties are the exception. If the dress code says Gatsby, lean in a little further with a headpiece and a strand of pearls. Our Great Gatsby party outfits guide shows how far to go before it tips into fancy dress.

How do you care for a fringe dress and store it?

Dry clean, hang it so the fringe falls straight, and never fold fringe into a drawer.

Taller Marmo pieces are made in Italy and are professional dry clean only, and that is the safest route for any fringed eveningwear. Washing at home tangles strands and can shrink a crepe base.

  • Hang it long. Use a padded hanger and a garment bag long enough that the fringe hangs freely. A bag that is too short bends the strands and leaves kinks.
  • Comb it out gently. After wearing, run your fingers down the fringe from top to bottom to separate it before it goes back in the wardrobe.
  • Steam, do not press. If silk and viscose fringe kink, hold a steamer a short distance away and let gravity straighten it.
  • Heavy beading lies flat. A dress with dense beaded fringe can stretch at the shoulders on a hanger over time. Store it folded in acid-free tissue in a box, with the fringe laid flat.
  • Travel with care. Roll the dress loosely inside tissue and hang it the moment you arrive.

How does Taller Marmo sizing work for fringe dresses?

Sized dresses run true to size, and most fringed kaftans are one size.

The brand cuts Italian sizes IT 36 to 48, which Coveti lists as UK 4 to UK 16 (IT 38 is a UK 6, roughly a US 2). The one-size kaftans, including the Mrs Ross, are designed to sit comfortably between an Italian 36 and an Italian 48. Models on the brand site are 173 to 180 cm tall, so an ankle-length kaftan will fall longer on a shorter frame. Our Taller Marmo size guide has the full conversion.

Fringe dresses around the world

Fringe travels well, but each region wears it a little differently.

  • United Kingdom. Summer wedding season and black tie balls call for a long fringe line. A black column like the Fringed Magnifique handles both.
  • United States. Gala season and New Year’s Eve favour beaded and sequin fringe. The Oscar de la Renta column is made for that kind of room.
  • Australia. December parties fall in summer, so viscose fringe and short kaftans beat heavy beading. The Dallas and Maar kaftans keep you cool.
  • India. Wedding receptions and sangeet nights reward movement. A fringe mini with sleeves, like the Disco Dragon, suits the dance floor.
  • Canada. Winter events mean layering. A floor-length fringe gown with a coat on top keeps the fringe safe until you arrive.
  • Italy and France. Summer evenings by the sea suit the Mrs Ross in ivory and emerald green.
  • The Gulf. For weddings and Eid, the high scarf neck and long sleeves of a fringed kaftan give coverage with plenty of movement.

Coveti ships worldwide from hubs in the UAE and Australia, and duties are calculated at checkout. To see the newest Taller Marmo pieces, start with our Fall 2026 guide, and for the label’s history read who is Taller Marmo.

Frequently asked questions

What is a fringe dress?

A fringe dress is a dress where loose hanging strands are the main detail. The fringe can be silk, viscose, beads, leather and metal, and it can cover the whole body, edge the hem, finish the sleeves and trim a train.

Which Taller Marmo dress has the most fringe?

The Mrs Ross Kaftan, a house classic since 2019, is framed by more than seven metres of fluid fringe. It is cut in viscose-blend crepe cady with a high scarf neckline and is offered in one size.

Is a black fringe dress appropriate for black tie?

Yes, when the fringe sits on a long, clean shape. A floor-length black column with fringed sleeves, like the Taller Marmo Fringed Magnifique, reads as formal. Keep jewellery and shoes simple.

Can you wear a white fringe dress to a wedding?

Only if the couple are happy with pale colours on guests. Ivory fringe is a good choice for a rehearsal dinner, a beach party and a bride’s own after-party.

How do you stop fringe from tangling?

Hang the dress on a padded hanger in a garment bag long enough for the fringe to fall straight. Comb the strands with your fingers after each wear, and use a steamer held at a distance to release kinks.

How do you clean a fringe dress?

Take it to a professional dry cleaner. Taller Marmo pieces are dry clean only, and washing at home can tangle the fringe and shrink the base fabric.
