The Mlouye Sera Tote: Sizes, the Sera Family and How It Wears
The Sera Tote is the Mlouye bag people recognise: a symmetrical top handle whose front steps in and out like a maze, built from stitched leather panels. Open the handles and a suede drawstring top folds out like an accordion, so a slim bag takes more than it looks. There are five versions now, the Sera Tote, the Mini Sera Tote, Sera Mia, Sera Eclat and Mini Sera Eclat, and Coveti carries 39 of them from $900 to $1,300. Here is how they differ.

What makes the Sera different
Most top handles are a box with a strap. The Sera is a relief: the front is built up in stepped panels that catch the light, so the bag looks carved. Mlouye calls it a surrealist maze. The practical trick is the drawstring top in suede, which sits hidden inside the handles and folds out when you need room, then pulls closed so nothing falls out on the move.
Sera Tote against the Mini
The full Sera Tote is 30 cm wide and carries a phone, a wallet, sunglasses and a small book. The Mini Sera Tote is 19.5 cm wide and the house sizes it for a large phone, a mini wallet and a lipstick; it is the one to buy for evenings and as a crossbody. Both come with a detachable shoulder strap. If you carry a full-size wallet every day, buy the full size.
Sera Mia and Sera Eclat
Sera Mia is the newest member: it is deeper than the Mini (9 cm), with an open top, an adjustable handle that closes with a slim turn-lock and a detachable suede pouch. Sera Eclat keeps the stepped front but replaces the handles with a wide shoulder strap, so it slumps into a hobo and sits under the arm; Mini Sera Eclat does the same at a smaller size.
The colours
The Sera is where Mlouye has the most fun with colour. Tonal versions such as Praline, Milky and Black keep the 3D front quiet; the multicolour ones, Burano, Mermaid and Gummy, pick out each step in a different shade. Suede versions soften the edges. For a first Sera, a tonal colour shows the architecture best.
How to wear the Sera Tote
Carry it on the forearm with tailoring, a grey suit and a white shirt, and let the bag be the only detail. The Mini on its strap goes across the body over a knit and jeans at the weekend. For evening, a black Sera Tote with a slip dress is enough.
