Roger Vivier designed the Belle Vivier in 1965, and its square buckle became the house signature once Catherine Deneuve wore the pump in Belle de Jour in 1967. About Roger Vivier
Roger Vivier (1907 to 1998) studied sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and opened his own house there in 1937. From 1953 to 1963 he designed the shoes for Christian Dior. In 1953 he made the shoes Queen Elizabeth II wore to her coronation, in 1954 he created the modern stiletto heel, and in 1959 he added the comma heel. The Belle Vivier pump, with its square chrome buckle, first appeared on the Yves Saint Laurent runway in 1965 and became famous when Catherine Deneuve wore it in the 1967 film Belle de Jour.
Today the Roger Vivier label is owned by the Tod’s Group of Diego Della Valle. Bruno Frisoni led the design from 2002 to 2018, and Gherardo Felloni, who came from Miu Miu, has been creative director since 2018. Almost everything is made in Italy.
