Suzanne Kalan Amalfi Guide: Colours, Pieces and Prices

Amalfi is the collection I send people to when they say they love Suzanne Kalan but want colour, and a lower price than the diamond lines. It is also the backbone of our stackable rings edit, and a single band such as the Amalfi Blend Half Band in 14K Yellow Gold, Blue Ombre, around $2,450 at Coveti, shows you the whole idea in one ring.

So what is Suzanne Kalan Amalfi? It is the house’s colour collection: baguette gemstones lined edge to edge in solid 14 carat gold. At Coveti there are 427 Amalfi pieces, from around $1,080 for studs to around $10,780 for the largest hoops, with a typical price of about $2,770. That makes it the most approachable way into the brand.

Here is how I would find your way around it.

How Amalfi differs from the Fireworks pieces

Suzanne Kalan built her name on baguettes set at offset, scattered angles, the Fireworks design you see in Classic Diamond. Amalfi keeps the baguette but changes the arrangement. The stones sit edge to edge in a neat line, so you read a continuous stripe of colour instead of a scatter of flashes. Where Fireworks is about movement, Amalfi is about colour.

The other big difference is the metal. Every Amalfi piece we stock is 14 carat gold, which is 58.5% pure gold, against 75% for the 18 carat used in Classic Diamond. That is a large part of why prices are lower. If you want the full story on the scattered setting, read our explainer on Suzanne Kalan Fireworks baguette jewellery.

The colours

This is the fun part, and also where people stall, because the choice is enormous. Across our 427 pieces I counted more than 30 different stone and colour options. Here are the ones you will see most often.

Colour Amalfi pieces at Coveti How it reads
White Topaz 52 Clear and bright, the closest to a diamond look
Rainbow 44 Many colours set side by side
Blue Ombre 32 Blues shading from light to deep
Red Ombre 30 Warm reds shading across the band
Black Ombre 28 Dark and graphic
Green Ombre 26 Greens shading from pale to rich
Pastel 26 Soft mixed shades
Dark Blue Ombre 24 Inky blues
Citrine 16 Golden yellow

Beyond those you will find light blue ombre, pink topaz, morganite topaz, rainbow moonstone, rose de France, blue topaz, peridot, rhodolite, iolite, black spinel and a handful of mixes in blue, red and green.

The ombre pieces deserve a special mention. In an ombre band the colour shifts gradually from one end to the other, so the ring looks different depending on which way you turn it. I find blue ombre the easiest to wear, because blue sits well with every gold colour, and black ombre the most striking.

Which gold to choose

Amalfi comes in 14 carat yellow, rose and white gold. Yellow is by far the most common in our edit, with 257 pieces, then rose with 150 and white with 20. My rough guide:

  • Yellow gold warms up citrine, red ombre and rainbow, and makes the colour look rich.
  • Rose gold flatters pink topaz, morganite and pastel tones, and softens black ombre nicely.
  • White gold is the cool option for white topaz and blues. It is usually rhodium plated and may need re-plating after some years of wear.

Above all, match the gold you already wear, since Amalfi is designed to be stacked with other pieces.

Amalfi rings

Rings are the heart of Amalfi, with 204 of them in our edit, and all in US sizes 6 to 7.5 including quarter sizes.

Half bands

There are 180 Amalfi half bands, from around $2,450 with a typical price of about $3,260. A half band carries its stones across the top half only, which allows resizing and makes it more comfortable to stack. A good first choice is the Amalfi Half Band in 14K Yellow Gold, Citrine, around $2,690 at Coveti. For more movement, the Amalfi Burst Blue Ombre Half Band in 14K Rose Gold is around $3,260. If you want something wider, the Amalfi Double Row White Topaz Half Band in 14K White Gold is around $5,440, and the Amalfi Reborn Stacker Half Band in 14K Yellow Gold, Rainbow is around $4,960.

Eternity bands

Amalfi has 24 eternity bands, all around $5,440 at Coveti. An eternity ring has stones all the way round, so the colour never stops as the ring turns. The Amalfi Burst Pastel Eternity Band in 14K Yellow Gold is a pretty example. Eternity rings are traditionally given for anniversaries and births, and Amalfi makes a lovely version of that tradition, because you can pick a colour with a personal meaning. Our eternity rings guide goes deeper on full versus half bands.

Amalfi earrings

Earrings are where Amalfi gets most affordable. There are 59 pairs of studs, starting at around $1,080, which is the lowest price for Suzanne Kalan anywhere in our catalogue. The Amalfi Hexagon Rainbow Moonstone Studs in 14K Yellow Gold are around $1,080 at Coveti, and the Amalfi Studs in 14K Yellow Gold, Blue Ombre are around $1,160.

Hoops sit higher, with 30 styles from around $3,020 up to around $10,780. At the top is the Amalfi Horizontal Rainbow Milli Hoops in 14K Yellow Gold, around $10,780. If hoops are your thing, our hoop earrings guide explains sizing in millimetres and how to wear them.

For something that moves, there are 14 drop earrings. The Amalfi Horizontal Drop Earrings in 14K White Gold, White Topaz are around $6,570 at Coveti and look wonderful with a bare neckline.

Amalfi necklaces and bracelets

Amalfi has 106 pendants, from around $1,400 with a typical price of about $2,610. The Amalfi Mini Pendant in 14K Rose Gold, Pink Topaz, around $1,400 at Coveti, is the lightest. For a little more presence, the Amalfi Midi Pendant in 14K Yellow Gold, Dark Blue Ombre is around $2,530. Necklaces across the house run 16 to 18 inches, and many are adjustable, which makes pendants easy to layer.

There are 14 bracelets, from around $4,630. The Amalfi Burst Rainbow Bar Pulley Bracelet in 14K Yellow Gold is around $4,960 at Coveti, and it is the piece I would pick to wear with a watch.

Your first Amalfi piece, by budget

If you are buying one piece to start, here is how I would spend the money.

Around $1,000 to $1,500. Studs, without question. At this level you get solid 14 carat gold and a real gemstone, and studs are the pieces you will wear most. Rainbow moonstone is soft and milky, citrine is sunny, and blue ombre is the one that goes with everything. A mini pendant in pink topaz also sits in this bracket.

Around $2,500 to $3,500. This is half band territory, and it is where most people start a stack. Choose the colour you would wear on a grey Tuesday, not the one that looks best on screen. My own order of preference would be white topaz, then blue ombre, then citrine.

Around $5,000 and up. Now you can choose an eternity band, a pulley bracelet, a pair of drop earrings, a double row half band. I would go for the eternity band if you mostly wear rings, and the drop earrings if you wear your hair up.

One small tip. Amalfi pieces are often made in the same colour across several types, so if you fall for a shade, you can build a matching set over time: studs first, then a band, then a pendant.

How to stack Amalfi

Amalfi was made for stacking, and the rules are loose. A few combinations I keep coming back to.

One colour, three shades. Pair a blue ombre half band with a dark blue ombre band and a white topaz one. The result looks like one deliberate gradient across the hand.

Rainbow plus neutral. A rainbow half band between two white topaz bands keeps the colour from tipping into too much.

Amalfi with diamonds. Put a single Amalfi band next to a Classic Diamond ring. The neat line of colour against the scattered white baguettes is the best of both sides of the house.

On the ears, start with a pair of studs and add a hoop in a second hole. With pendants, two lengths in the same gold are plenty.

Caring for coloured stones

Amalfi uses gemstones that vary in hardness, so a little care goes a long way. Store each piece separately so harder stones do not scratch softer ones, take rings off for the gym and gardening, and clean them gently with warm, soapy water and a soft brush. If you are unsure about a particular stone, ask a jeweller before using anything stronger.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Suzanne Kalan Amalfi collection?

Amalfi is Suzanne Kalan’s colour collection, with baguette gemstones lined edge to edge in solid 14 carat gold. It comes in yellow, rose and white gold and in more than 30 stone and colour options, including white topaz, rainbow, citrine and ombre gradients. At Coveti there are 427 Amalfi pieces, from around $1,080.

Is Suzanne Kalan Amalfi real gold?

Yes, Suzanne Kalan Amalfi is made in solid 14 carat gold, which is 58.5% pure gold. Every Amalfi piece we stock is 14 carat, in yellow, rose and white gold. That is one reason Amalfi costs less than the Classic Diamond and Fireworks pieces, which are made in 18 carat gold.

How much does Suzanne Kalan Amalfi cost?

At Coveti, Suzanne Kalan Amalfi ranges from around $1,080 to around $10,780, with a typical price of about $2,770. Studs start at around $1,080, pendants at around $1,400, half bands at around $2,450 and hoops at around $3,020. Eternity bands are around $5,440, and bracelets start at around $4,630.

What does ombre mean in Suzanne Kalan Amalfi?

Ombre in Amalfi means a gradient of colour, where the stones shift gradually from one shade to another across the piece. The collection comes in blue, red, green and black ombre, plus light blue and dark blue versions. Because the shade changes along the band, an ombre ring looks different depending on which way you turn it.

What sizes do Amalfi rings come in?

Amalfi rings at Coveti come in US sizes 6 to 7.5, including quarter sizes, so 6, 6.25, 6.5, 6.75, 7, 7.25 and 7.5. Convert your UK size to US before ordering. Half bands are the safer choice when you are unsure, because stones sit across the top only, which allows resizing.

Can you stack Amalfi rings with other Suzanne Kalan rings?

Yes, Amalfi rings stack well with other Suzanne Kalan rings, and they were designed with stacking in mind. A neat line of colour from Amalfi next to a Classic Diamond band in the Fireworks setting works especially well. Keep to one gold colour across the stack, and use half bands for comfort between rings.
