Aje Studio: What It Is, How It Fits and Where to Buy It

0

Aje Studio is the everyday line from Aje, the Sydney label founded in 2008 by Adrian Norris and Edwina Forest. Where Aje mainline is the runway collection of lace, sculptural dresses and eveningwear, Aje Studio is a separate line of relaxed linen, cotton and denim pieces for daily wear: tops, shirts, dresses, pants, skirts and shorts. Coveti now carries 109 Aje Studio pieces, sized AU 4 to 18 on most styles.

This guide explains what Aje Studio is, how it differs from Aje mainline and Aje Athletica, what the line makes and in which fabrics, how it fits, and where to buy it. For the brand’s history, see who is Aje.

What is Aje Studio?

Aje Studio is Aje’s line for everyday dressing. Aje describes it as a fresh take on daily wear, with refined silhouettes, versatile layers and easy details. In practice that means linen shirts and wide-leg pants, rib-knit tanks, relaxed denim, cotton mini dresses and simple maxi dresses: clothes for work, weekends and holidays rather than for an event.

It keeps Aje’s handwriting. Bead details on straps and ties, a vegan leather logo patch on the Corine pieces, gold hardware on the Kendall and Elsie denim, bubble hems and tie backs all come straight from the mainline vocabulary. What changes is the fabric, the construction and the occasion: Studio is softer, simpler and made to be worn more often.

How is Aje Studio different from Aje mainline and Aje Athletica?

Aje now runs three lines under one name. The simplest way to keep them apart is by occasion.

For a side-by-side of the two diffusion lines, read Aje Athletica vs Aje Studio. For the current runway collection, see Aje Resort 2027, which Coveti also stocks, including the Boheme Lace Midi Dress and the Milano Maxi Dress. Put a Boheme next to a Studio linen dress and the difference is obvious: one is for an occasion, the other for a Tuesday.

What does Aje Studio make?

Of the 109 Aje Studio pieces Coveti now carries, tops lead with 48, followed by 29 dresses, 18 pants, 8 skirts, 5 shorts and 1 playsuit. The line is built in families: a single fabric and colour runs through a top, a bottom and a dress, so pieces can be worn as a set and mixed apart.

What fabrics does Aje Studio use?

Natural and plant-based fibres dominate. Cotton appears in 72 of the 109 pieces, linen in 34, lyocell in 16 and viscose in 13. The 55% linen and 45% cotton blend is the backbone of the line: it has linen’s cool, dry handle with a little more softness and less creasing than pure linen.

Lyocell carries the drapier pieces, such as the Lindsey Midi Dress and the Evie Relaxed Pant, both 100% lyocell. Ramie, a crisp plant fibre, appears on the Cove shirts and the Cove Relaxed Pant in Claret. The rib-knit Cowrie basics are 95% cotton with 5% elastane for recovery. A few evening-leaning styles use polyester, such as the hand-beaded Naia pieces and the Florence dresses.

What are the best Aje Studio dresses?

There are 29 Studio dresses on Coveti, in mini, midi and maxi lengths. These are the ones that do the most work.

  • Corine Wrap Midi Dress: linen-cotton, a wrap front with button fastening and a vegan leather logo patch at the V neckline. Also in Black. The best all-rounder in the line.
  • Corine Linen Mini Dress: scoop front and back neckline with a back cut-out, in White, Black and Chocolate.
  • Sol Halter Maxi Dress: linen-cotton maxi in the warm Ember colour, for holidays and long lunches.
  • Estelle Maxi Dress: 100% cotton, rouleau straps with bead detailing.
  • Solstice Maxi Dress: a fully shirred bodice with a scoop neckline, in Chocolate linen-cotton.
  • Kendall Wrap Mini Dress: cotton denim in a functional wrap shape with a logo patch.
  • Naia Mini Dress: spaghetti straps and hand-beaded detail, the dressiest Studio option.

For the mainline dresses, see the Aje dresses guide.

What tops and shirts does Aje Studio make?

Tops are the biggest category, with 48 pieces. They split into knit basics, shirts and statement tops.

The basics are the Cowrie rib knits: the Cowrie Scoop Tank in four colours, the Cowrie Square Neck Tank, the Cowrie Halter Tank and the Cowrie Baby Tee with capped sleeves and a cropped length. The Dylan Rib Bralette and the Sienna Belted Tee, in cotton and modal, sit alongside them.

The shirts include the Corine Relaxed Shirt with a patch pocket and step hem, the Ella Oversized Shirt with French cuffs, the boxy cropped Addie Shirt in Sierra Print and the Cove Bubble Hem Shirt in ramie. Statement tops include the Sol Scarf Top with wide back ties and the bead-trimmed Evie Halter Top. More in Aje tees and tops.

What pants, skirts and shorts does Aje Studio make?

The 18 pants lean relaxed: elasticated waists, wide legs and harem shapes. The Corine Tailored Pant is the sharpest, a wide-leg linen-cotton trouser with side seam pockets. The Corine and Ivara Harem Pants add waistband pleats, and the denim runs from the Kendall Wide Leg Jean to the Tully Bubble Crop Jean.

The 8 skirts include the Margot Mini Denim Skirt in drapey cotton-lyocell denim, the Margot Denim Maxi Skirt, the bias-cut Zera Lace Midi Skirt in Claret viscose and the Willow Maxi Skirt with a gathered waistband. The 5 shorts include the Corine Tailored Shorts, the Kendall Barrel Short and the Addie Short with pearl bead detailing. The single playsuit is the Sol Relaxed Playsuit in Ember linen-cotton. See also Aje pants and shorts.

How does Aje Studio fit?

Most Aje Studio pieces are sized AU 4 to 18, and these numbers match UK sizes, so take your usual UK dress size. Rib knits and jersey, such as the Cowrie tanks, are sized XXS to XXL. Aje’s model is 178 cm tall and wears AU 6/XS in many styles and AU 8/S in others, which gives a useful reference for lengths: a midi on a 178 cm model will sit lower on a shorter frame.

The cuts are mostly relaxed, with elasticated waists, tie backs and wrap fronts, so the line is forgiving between sizes. On denim, Aje notes that one style runs to the inch waist, and suggests sizing up for a relaxed leg. For full size charts, see the Aje sizing guide.

Where can you buy Aje Studio?

Aje Studio is sold through Aje’s own stores, of which there are more than 20 across Australia and New Zealand, and through the Aje website. In Australia, David Jones also stocks Aje; it is a separate retailer, so items bought there are returned to David Jones, not to Aje and not to Coveti.

Coveti now carries Aje Studio: 109 pieces across tops, dresses, pants, skirts, shorts and a playsuit, alongside Aje mainline and, for the first time, Aje bags, shoes and jewellery. Every piece is 100% authentic and verified before dispatch, and ships worldwide from our UAE and Australia hubs by DHL Express and FedEx International Priority, with most regions Delivered Duty Unpaid. See returns for the policy, and the Aje brand hub for the full range.

How do you style Aje Studio?

Studio mixes well with the rest of Aje. Wear a Corine Wrap Midi with a flat Aje slide by day and swap in a heel and gold earrings for dinner. Pair a Cowrie tank with the Margot denim maxi skirt and a woven belt. Add a raffia bag from the Aje bags guide and the Studio linen sets become holiday clothes.
